Why does Solus just happen to look like the Ascian who is posessing him?

I guess if it was early enough in life he could do it gradually.

Souls as in actual Solus, and not Poor Random Sap from the First?

He could do it gradually so nobody caught on, or it could just be coincidental that Ancient Emet-Selch / Hades looked an awful lot like Solus Galvus (before the "zos" and its attendant Garlean hierarchy were introduced).

Emet mentions he could do that himself in his debut scene when talking about the cloning vats. He also mentions early in Shadowbringers (I think in his first scene with the Scions) that he possessed and altered someone on the First. (Weird how we never inquire about the person he just erased, that seems like someone should care.

It isn't a derailment and it's relevant to the point being raised. You're free to adhere to the idea that the protagonists are somehow the exception to the rules they lay down for everybody else but that isn't something everyone is willing to go along with.

It's also a thread posted in the lore discussion section of the forum. Naturally people are going to discuss the story and break off into relevant threads as conversations progress and evolve.

I also don't hate Hydaelyn or Minfilia. I think the writing for the former is questionable and the latter was cruelly and callously killed off but I would humbly request that you avoid such sweeping generalisations and accusations in the future.

ive been going though so many old threads lately i accidently mistook you for someone else im genuinely sorry bout that (little sleep got to me lol). it really did feel like a derail since the thread had nothing to do with hydaelyn and minfillia.

I actually do think this is a derailment, but it's also completely misunderstanding the actual nature of the First's Minfilias for the sake of an equivalency that doesn't work at all. The overall nature is admittedly generally obfuscated by way of being told to us through not-completely-informed sources, but it's not that Minfilia is possessing anyone; rather, the same traits (and probably the same soul but it's not directly stated I believe) are constantly being reincarnated. It's rather explicitly not possession, in fact, because it's abundantly clear that the girl we'd go on to call Ryne is by no means the Minfilia we knew.

If you've played FFXIII-2 (and if your answer is 'no' I absolutely don't blame you), it's exactly the same situation as Yeul: different girls, but all with the same name and purpose to their life.

Maybe Solus met a grisly end Emet used this opportunity to alter his appearance while he was bandaged?

We know that he eventually ordered Gaius to kill at least 6-7 of Solus family, so maybe some of them had their suspicions?

That's similar to what I had said. Since we don't know how it came about it could have been anything. We just have an idea as to when it happened.
