For the record... I am stupid AND Stupid... and even STUPID
Inventory and poor Bazaar settings are the main problem with undercutting. People want to make gil, but then their inventory fills up. And with only 10 spaces in their bazaar to fill with things to sell, all they can hope to do is undercut and so that it floats to the top of the list and people buy it quickly so it frees up a spot.
People are not stupid. They just care more about themselves than you.

Game meant to be played = mine hq mats and make your own to sell for good profit.

i think op has his thread title backwards. i think hes the dumb one for not having dol leveled to avoide over priced mats. but then again if he leveled his DOL who would buy our overpriced materials ?
Only because the massive ammounts of different items (mats and gear) (HQ and NQ) I would totally support at least doubling the ammount of items we can sell at each retainer, as long as there is a cap to how many stacks of one kind of item you can put up. Also, I would love it if we could move all of our inventory slots from one retainer to the other, so instead of having two animated storage closets with 150 inventory slots, we could have one with 300.Inventory and poor Bazaar settings are the main problem with undercutting. I've made 4.2m leveling GSM to 50 from 38 without selling a thing on the wards.
And I'm probably going to make more when servers merge, cause things should drop in price.

I'm going to say to get your materials with a Disciple of the Land in order to make more profit from what you do, but you are going to answer me that I didn't grasp the meaning of the thread.
But tell me, if Disciples of the Lands are useless, then... who makes Jewelry? Armors? Weapons?
Crafting is a choice to help all the other classes getting the best gear/items for their work/fight. A DoH is not useless just because it doesn't make money. You guys do such good stuff!

I'm a GSM and it is my only trade skill. I have no level in any DoL. I make profit and I'll give you a few tips.
First: I have a spread sheet of mats I use and know the high, low, and average. I also have a spread sheet of the items I sell. My spread sheet tells me what I have to sell, at current market value, and I quickly know if it is worth my time to sell it.
Second: NEVER EVER EVER EVER fill you vendor with one item. You put 3 or more of the same item on you vendor, you are asking to be undercut. If you put 3 or less and update your vendor regularly, the competition doesn't panic then. They see your few items and feel no need to undercut you; they think you'll be sold out soon.
Third: Rotate stock. Electrum rings not selling? Either turn them into materia and sell that or save for when your competition runs out of stock. Put something else up that has few people selling it.
Forth: Sell materia bind gear. People are too afraid of loss to make it, so little competition.
Fifth: Custom orders. You can put in your search you are a GSM for hire. When I'm crafting to refill my retainer, I always put I'm for hire in my search. I get hired every now and then... and people generally tip well.
I've made tons of profit as a GSM and I'm not even 50 GSM yet. I've only leveled on selling things that make me profit. It can be done.
