Juuuust in case you may have missed the warnings, you may not want to jump right into buying the glam/minions/etc right away as those same points are used to expand your island in the next several levels.

I haven't done the math personally, but the cowrie grind could be potentially harder without those first couple of upgrades (which also help you bring in cowries..)

You can get 2,000/week doing challenge log, and several hundred per day via the workshops.
The panic “oh noes I can’t progress” is only a problem if you are in a rush to get it done.

The 4k I dumped on that minion was certainly not a good investment. There were three 1k expansions just sitting there that could've been claimed instantly, boosting progress. The second half of the challenge log eventually got me one of them.
