being honest the finished item market has slowly been declining since the influx of finished gear drops came into the game. i don't sell finished items anymore and haven't for a while now. it's alot easier and faster to make gil selling materials.

On my server the price of finished gear is still the same if not more than before AF. People on Wutai realise that double/tripple melded +1 gear is better than AF. Also I'm a pack rat, i have about 60 pieces of gear I'm trying to sell before the servers merge, and everything is selling for pretty much the price I paid for it, if not more (almost doubling profit on really old dated gear i've never gotten around to selling).
I make my +1 ingots out of NQ ore.... so idk. I'd suggest just doin that, it works way better if you care at all about gil.
I have 51,000,000g and I only have glad at 50 lol
Bring Quality Notorious Monsters to FFXIV!
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/40738-Highly-Notorious-Monstersz
I get quality up over 650, usually 700 (at 45 gsm) from 3 nq ores, i have no issues makin HQ ingots, i also make them 3 at a time to save one ore per 3 ingots. 'course if you screw the pooch then you just wasted 8 ore instead of 3, choices choices!
Edit: I have miner 42, makin the +1's is faster for me usin NQ ore. If i go out mining then sure sure~ I'll use the HQ ores right up, but that means i have to go mining!!

I feel like we've beaten this topic to the ground several times in older threads... But let me point out the recurring argument from the other threads.
The problem is not exactly what the OP said, though he's working his way there. Yes, you'll lose money if you buy mats, and the profit is in farming your own mats. This doesn't become a problem until raw mats exceed the value of a finished product--in other words, when you make more money farming and selling the mats than you do if farm, craft, and sell the mats.

on my server i can still sell finished gear, but there is an issue. i can sell the materials that make the finished gear for more than i can the gear itself. for example felt robe of casting sells round 100k.On my server the price of finished gear is still the same if not more than before AF. People on Wutai realise that double/tripple melded +1 gear is better than AF. Also I'm a pack rat, i have about 60 pieces of gear I'm trying to sell before the servers merge, and everything is selling for pretty much the price I paid for it, if not more (almost doubling profit on really old dated gear i've never gotten around to selling).
the undyed felt sells around 30k each and it takes 4 of those.
electrum ingot sells for round 12k.
woolen yarn sells over 5k.
boar leather is around 10k.
selling the individual mats totals 147k where i can sell the finished gear for 100k so the materials is an additional 47k profit and no chance for busting the materials and effort to make the finished gear.

I can't see the words due to the size of your attitude ..
The way I see it, crafting is for myself, to make items for me and my linkshell etc, do repairs.
When I want to make money I go out and gather.
