New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

To be blunt. I think MALE Hrothgar are a lost cause when it comes to hair until 7.x's graphics updates. They were simply never designed with the thought of having to share hair with others races and trying to make things work as they stand is very much "Square peg in a Circle hole". They asked for feedback on "Shared hair vs VERY few and far between unique hairs" and ended up deciding that share hair with ears is the best option.

Perhaps with the higher specs and the new shaders and such being done on player characters and their hair in 7.x it'll be easier to add in hair tuffs where the ears emerge from the hair ... but they're not gonna make human hair look great on these dudes as they currently stand, and it's clear they know it doesn't look great. This tom-foolery is all the reason I need to think that Female Hrothgar are gonna be designed in a way that won't condemn them to this fate.

I'm betting they could make the hair look quite a better right now if they wanted to. I think they are just looking for an easy solution that the community will accept. Of course they know it doesn't look great, they have to, but it doesn't matter if it doesn't require as much work, in my opinion. With female hrothgar, I'd be quite interested to see if and how much they will try and improve the process.

Sure, I think they could modify and change the hair to better suite Hrothgar ... but they got like 50k+ assets to make (Be it for 6.x or 7.0) and have to think of their pipeline. So yeah, "Good enough" is what the community will accept without throwing that ear-gate fit.

The main problems with Hrothgar males are ...
1- Non-uniform head shapes (This was apparently low-key addressed to some extent, but not beyond just changing some Hroth head's foreheads to match the others Hroths)
2- Forehead area is far removed from the norm or other races.
3- The stupid AF hunch makes it so that their neck attaches to their head at a severe angle. That's why the 2B Bob and some other styles had to be elongated on Hrothgar, their heads are NOT suited for bobs as more of the back of their head is taken up by their neck than other races since they have to be designed around that default hunch.


As it stands, the hairs I think will work best on Hrothgar males are: Rain Maker (Big bang to hide the forehead/ hairline issues and a high up ponytail)/ Sharlayan Studies-Wind Caller-Lexen-tails (Hides forehead+the back/ tail wouldn't need much work to work with the neck).
Ones I think MAY work without looking completely trash: Samsonian Locks/ Styled For Hire/ Modern Legend. The 2 new styles don't look bad to me (Feminine one doesn't "look good" on any male TBH), but I'd yet to see an in game example of a Hrothgar wearing it, so I can't say for sure.

To make the process/ outcome improved for Females, they simply have to design the Females with shared hair in mind. Uniform head shape for their 4 faces (like every other race has), make the forehead inline with the other races and dont' give them the stupid hunched neck.

Given that every non-lala female in this game has less facial diversity and far softer faces than their male counterparts, this wouldn't look outta place or even be new.
I could easily see them having more humanized heads than the males (The males clearly have a mix of animal and human head shapes) yet retaining the no sclera animal eyes, the animal nose/ some degree of snout and maybe repositioning of the ears to not get in the way of all the hair stuff by pushing them back a bit.

The 2B, Karen Chaos and 9S styles all still look like xenomorph heads meanwhile a brief look on the interwebs shows the two new ponytails actually pass muster. Well practical does, high pony is still too feminine to look good on a super macho race but if you play a femmey hroth or want to make believe yours is female until females have rights its not an atrocity unto the eyes of god like half the options we have now.

That sounds like a them problem. Instead of half assing the races, they should have skipped them and released them when they were ready. And I mean, REALLY ready, with enough hairstyles/hats working. They have the budget now, and glamour is literally endgame for 75% of the playerbase. People want to look good, and this looks terrible.

I'd honest to go be ok with them fixing shit like that and the Glamour system, rather than getting Island Sanctuary (and I love Island Sanctuary).

Rather than upgrade my island I saved 6000 blues to get the practical ponytail and I adore it. Im keeping it on til 6.3, assuming going forward all new options will fit hrothgar.
It also looks gr8 with two-tone hairs but hrothgars fur pattern also changes color so I dont use the highlight option lol

How does it look like? All I've seen are hairstyles thumbnails but no IG model of the hairstyle on Hrothgar.

The only problem is ofc our stupid hunchback causing the pony to clip into our spine in some poses but otherwise its gr8
