Black screen after launching the game

Just tried with my brother non steam account using the launcher, worked just fine, so it really is a steam related issue

I just wanted to do bunny quests before reset

Yes, a steam version of the game... I'm guessing the issue we're having isn't very frequent otherwise there would be tons of other threads, let's hope for a fix some time soon

how strange. I updated drivers and everything else i could think of, and still waiting to see the starting screen...

I'm having the same problem, already trying doing some old fixes for black screens like changing configurations on internet explorer, running game without dx 11 and checking file integrity but nothing works. Also tried with a non-steam account and it worked just fine.

Same issue here. Game worked fine yesterday, before the patch. Have tried every old solution I could find through google including: 1) checking ffxiv.cfg to see that Cutscenemovieopening is set to 1. 2) Resetting Microsoft edge to default values. 3) Checking that directx is updated and have tried running the game through DX9, DX11 and DX12. 4) Checked that there was an exception for the game in Windows defender firewall. 5) Deleting ffxivboot.bck. 6) Verifying integrity of game files. 7) Updating drivers of my graphics card (GTX 980). 8) Reinstalling the game. 9) Restarting my computer (many, many times). Been at it for 5+ hours now, appreciate any advice.

Yup, I too am suffering this issue, tried running the game, did a repair of it, and even a full reinstall and I'm loading into a black screen then crashing. Switching between DX9 and 11 didn't fix it, I'm also playing on Steam.

I did further tests.
It's not related to fw or network. (tried it via phone internet).

But it is related to the patch change:
The Steam overlay will now appear when loading the game via Steam.

After reading this, I tried various combinations.

I get the game running, when I enable steam overlay in steam (I prefer it off) and then select dx9 in the launcher and when I click play and the window opens, I directly open the steam overlay (ctrl+tab) .
Then I get the logo and game menu...

Same issue, Steam user. Game launches into a black screen and nothing happens. The ingame cursor is visible , but that is it. Game can't be closed, except with task manager. Tried with DX9 and DX11, Steam overlay on and off, Updated PGPU drivers, did a fresh install and a PC restart.
