Please stop asking for "instanced housing"

Instanced housing is a technology that can be used to implement housing.

What many people asking for "instanced housing" really seem to be after is an unlimited numbers of houses: at least one house for every player, perhaps every character, and/or every FC that wants one. That's an actual potential game feature, for which instanced housing is just one potential delivery method.

So if that's what people actually want, they could prevent a lot of arguments (e.g. "FFXIV already has instanced housing") by rephrasing their request for what it really is: an unlimited number of houses. If they then want to argue that FFXIV can deliver unlimited numbers of houses using instancing, that's a sub-argument.

I think people often say 'instanced housing' when they mean instanced personal houses but generally forum-users know what they mean. We also have to consider that not everyone is a native English speaker and the difference between house and housing is a sublte one. Personally, I feel getting hung up on semantics isn't worthwhile unless it's leading to confusion about what the poster actually means.

As to whether we should stop asking for instanced houses... that's an interesting question.
I would like to see a housing system implemented that satisfies the majority of players who would like a house and I don't really care how that's done.
So while I have argued for instanced houses on the grounds that they appear to offer the most flexible way of achieving that goal, I am also aware that I am arguing without full access to the facts and am certainly not an expert. I wouldn't be unhappy if the dev response was simply to add enough wards to satisfy most of the demand, as long as it was done in a timely manner.

At least one house for every player would be wonderful, but considering the shortage we have at present, I would hesitate to make so big an ask. Maybe you're right though. Maybe it would be better to ask specifically for what we each feel would be the ideal rather than what we assume is realistic.

I do think people have fixated on removing houses from others in recent times and it appears the devs have listened and responded to those requests, by making it harder for players to own multiple properties or to hang onto a house while inactive.
So, maybe we do need to be more careful and specific when asking or there is a danger we might get what we asked for instead of what we want.

People just want a house and the only way they understand they can get a house for sure is instanced housing because so many other games do it.

Of course there are other ways to do it but most people aren't that creative.

Everytime someone comes in with the braindead take of instanced housing already exists in the game, they are shut down. When someone says instanced housing it is pretty universally accepted to mean an instanced house, not an instanced apartment with the ability to scale so everyone can have at least 1 house.

When players have asked for more houses, on numerous occasions they have been met with the reply that maintaining more continuously active ward zones would be too great a strain on resources. If it is physically impossible for the ward servers to accommodate all the players who want houses, it only makes sense for them to ask for a different solution to their problem - one which is tried and true in other games. This game is already halfway there, with all house interiors being instanced. All we need are instanced house exteriors and much of the demand for ward housing could be alleviated.

Yup. Island Sanctuary will most definitely amplify the instanced housing conversation.
