It's so strange, because I was having a discussion on another forum about how the endgame scene of FFXIV can be extremely toxic and off-putting to people. Dungeons, though? I haven't seen anything more the some passive aggression in Aurum Vale. They're generally way too easy to cause someone to tantrum at a poor sprout.

Oh Trust me, you'll find some unsavory people in dungeons. Its not as frequent as say an ultimate or savage fight, but its there and it exists past Aurum vale. However, to be fair, it typically comes from people who when you're actually trying to be helpful, see it as you being smug and knowing

1. From the very start of 2.0 I've had people tell me to kill myself or that I should quit. One instance i remember is doing Amdapor Keep for the first time and we all wiped on the last boss cause the Tank rushed in and no one knew the mechanics. Told me directly I should quit and how horrible I was when I asked if we could try again. This was very common behavior in this time period.

2. Poor GMing. You'll have some people catching bans but them you take a look at Balmung shout chat and see people talking about animal genitalia, their mods that give their characters animal genetalia, you can see people in the shout chat talking about other fetishes nonstop all day and people who have done it for years which I won't name but just spend a few seconds there and you'll see some disgusting dialogue being spammed. Even in say chat.

3. People promoting their Discords 24/7 in party finders, shout chats. These same discords dictating content like Eureka nonstop. Making it hard to even get anything done since a Discord decides it wants to control BA and you're not allowed. You have people insta pulling everything so people miss out cause no one cares.

4. Hunts all the years of them getting instapulled and people missing out.

5. From Coils, to Alexander, to Omega, there and so on. Extremes as well and Savages. You'll find more and more unsavory people cursing at each other and they don't get banned. Telling people to quit the game.

6. You got people screaming at novices cause they don't know every mechanic before a fight in a basic 4 man leveling dungeon cause they are so tired of farming tomes they take it out on others.

I'm sorry but this community is not good in any sense of the word nor has it ever been no matter what anyone says.

And with that, I am done with this game. Been here since 1.0 but I'm ready to move on to something else like offline games.

I'm just reading this now, and what I find oddly ironic is that my feelings about the game are the exact opposite of this OP, and I don't participate in anything he has mentioned. Mostly, I guess. I don't hang out in ERP heavy zones like Limsa. I don't have access to Discord, but I also don't make any effort to get it either. Hunts? Nopeeee. And if glamour can't incentivize me to run savage, nothing will. I will do EX fights. Those can be cleared via PF, which is not on your list.

I guess dungeons count to, and it is extremely rare to run into uncomfortable hostility there. It happens, but it's the internet. We are all still human controlling a digital avatar, and conflicts arise in competitive and combative arenas. These situations almost always diffuse without the intervention of a GM on their own. And that is actually a good testament to the overall community and playability of FFXIV.

When things crunch in, try to take a few steps back and view things from a wider lens.

This point has made me essentially stop high end raiding. People are toxic as hell, tend to overly hype themselves up ability wise (while also disparaging everyone else), and overall just aren't pleasant people to play with/talk to.

I do think that the goodness of the community gets overrblown a bit. It's better than average for sure but that's mostly because of 2 things. If you use duty roulette, the people you random into content with are probably not going to be jerks to you no matter what. I've been playing this game since 2.0 and can count on 1 hand the really toxic encounters I have had in (most, more on this later) duty roulettes. The other is that community largely has no patience for discrimination, and for that matter neither do the GM's so jerkbags tend to not spend all their time filling public channels with epithets because they know they will get nailed if they do.

Now all of that said, yeah, crummy experiences in party finder are fairly common. Public chat channels, especially novice network, still completely terrible at all times even if they aren't filled with wall to wall slurs. Frontlines roulette in particular is prone to gasbags being a jerk in alliance chat. So really, "the ff14 community is good" should be read as shorthand for, "you probably aren't going to get dumped on for being bad in casual content and slurs are a relative rarity instead of blasted out in a global channel 24/7."

crystal dc is where all the erpers and snowflakes go. it is literally the festering hole of the NA servers.

And I love it. Best choice ever moving onto Balmung. It's been way more social than any other server by leaps and bounds.
