I could see Sony pushing for removal of PS4 support to help push PS5 sales but I couldn't see them removing or delaying PC launches for a game that has been out worldwide on PC since its inception.

I dont think that would be a smart move, unless they can both Provide PS5s and have Metric Data that suggests a MASSIVE amount of players have gotten off the PS4 and Jumped onto PS5. Otherwise that would be a complete alienation of their console playerbase.
It COULD still happen. Just if its still relevant today, I heard the big hurdle is that Microsoft would want/require GOLD in order for Xbox plaers to play online, and YoshiP doesnt want that. You dont even need PS+_ to play on Playstation. Just pay the Sub and have the game registered and Boom good to go

Whether it is smart or not, if you come out and say 7.0 will be the last expansion on PS4 and give the console players years to purchase a PS5 to continue playing on console, I think that could work. That being said, if CBU3 continues to be profitable to SE/Sony I hope that they will let them just keep doing their thing without injecting themselves into decisions.

It's ridiculous Xbox players can't (and probably will never) play XIV without a PC or a PS just because they're affiliated with MS. If this happens when SE is a third-party, then I don't know how ridiculous things will get when they're owned by Sony. That never will happen because the large PC playerbase will just stop playing.
At least I would because a discission like that would mark the beginning of the end.
Cross play is a big selling point of XIV and if MS would not have bought Activision Blizzard then a Xbox version would have been possible too.
If I'm not mistaken. Sony's working on a single (If not a couple) of MMOs games. I'm having full expectations they're going to be PS exclusives, which will tell us what might also happen to XIV if Sony decided to buy SE.
