Anyone else get the feeling they are still figuring out the story for 6.X and 7.0 ?

The interviews made it seem like the Void isn't even going to be the focus of 7.0

I think this was obvious to those of us who have played for years though. They give us this little story in the patches to keep us distracted until the expansion and then do something different.

So I'm just curious, but is this just a Japanese thing maybe? They've never seemed to give a whole lot of information on upcoming releases since I've started playing.

They give lots of information, so if you think that they don't, you most likely are unaware of where that information is. When you launch the game, you can see the lodestone news but you can also take a look at it here https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/

There will usually be 2 live letters before each patch. The first one is vague and the second one is a lot more detailed and provides footage and gameplay from Yoshi-P. Most of these are in Japanese, but you can find translations on the FFXIV reddit discord or in stream chats. These streams are announced on the lodestone and in the game when they are beginning. You can watch the summaries by content creators if you don't have time for it.

After it, they publish a dedicated website for the patch with videos and the media they showed in the live letter https://sqex.to/uuTTH

Lots of interviews are given to websites in this time, some of them in Japanese, but we usually translate them to find any interesting information. My advice to find out about these is to subscribe to some youtube content creators or find posts about the interviews on reddit.

At special game events, Yoshi-P tries to go there and do 20-30 interviews, but there haven't been as many of these events because of covid.

Yet, Yoshi P's comments don't align with this. He blatantly said that what they finalize for the remaining 6.X patches could drastically change the story for 7.0...that doesn't sound like an expansion coming out in 2023.

It's not coming out in 2023. My post even says that and all my post does is add 4 months for each patch. That takes you into January 2024 at minimum.

No, because things are planned out and maped out in advance, it just takes time to make it.
Plus the games narrative is shown in batches, they slowly build it up, so we as players and consumers have to wait and follow the developments.
Id like to think the wording is kinda tongue-in-cheek were YoshiP is just being vague and funny to build discussion. Thats just a personal thought, otherwise it feels weird to say that, unless its just a cleaver/cheap marketing tactic.

I agree that I dont think the next Expansion is coming 2023.....but Ill leave room for a MAYBE.
Because Endwalker came out December 7, 2021, and expansions dont release EXACTLY in 2 years. More like 2.5 I think.
So Id think maybe summer of 2024. If 2023 it would be winter maybe. But I personally think 2023 might be to early, unless this turns out to be a Short Expansion.
People like to be fearful about content, but FFXIV has shown us time-and-time again that they figure it out.

Everything has shifted by several months due to EW being delayed into December. If it launched on its original timeline like past expansions then 7.0 would definitely be in 2023. Right now though there's no way it would drop in 2023. Its likely going to be early 2024, probably sometime in April or May.

That was before. Right now the patch are further apart than they used to be, so the expansions as well.

Who is crying and who is presenting doom and gloom? Seems like you are the one being dramatic and in serious need of a therapist. I presented a thought-out perspective based on the current interviews with complete sentences. Not an emotional tirade that you seem to think will make some sort of statement or impact. Find peace. And maybe medication.

It's right there in the intro to your thought. You speak of finding peace, but you're speculating (anxious) over the future of the game. 7.0 is so far away, it's not worth a thought right now. Try living in the moment and enjoying what's about to come in 6.2
