Moonfire Faire 2022 "Summer Sunset Bottoms" should be two separate items

Said thread talks about how bad the male glam is and is currently talking about health care lol. So honestly I don't blame the OP for making a separate thread.

I too, would like to be able to at least wear the male shorts. We have a bunch of different versions of panties, and the only sort of "shorts" that we do get is like, what, the knickers? I would love briefs -- especially as a lala lol.

Frankly, the male shorts are pretty bad, so there is nothing wrong with that. Largely though, the thread is talking about wanting to make these hideous bottoms available for both. The male bottoms are hideous. I can appreciate male players not wanting them, that's for sure.

Oof.. I feel a bit bad because I kind of like them LOL. But I can acknowledge that it's definitely not to everyone's tastes. I can't remember if it exists or not, we could definitely use some non-frills, plain ol' briefs/shorts for both genders. And definitely some basic one pieces that don't look like a dress (looking at you southern seas swimsuit).

Just image how popular the male top would be if females could where it without a bra.
And why not? It's not like there's any risk of a "wardrobe malfunction."

Then just make the male one a variation where we get the bra + the necklace or make it so that the shirt covers the goodies. Problem fixed.

Haha yeah, I'm def not knocking the southern seas and I know full well how versatile it can be - I personally like it and have a pair myself. I think we could do with some basics two piece or one piece sets as far as beachwear goes. I think the southern seas will always just remind me of being a minidress since.. Well, that's what I commonly see it being worn as - not that I blame anyone ofc lol

We got a variation of that top already in a past moonfire event. Came with little masks. The Moonfire Happi. You can find bottoms relatively easy to go with them as well. Not dyable.

I'd like to see more things like the Sky Pirate casting bottoms. Less undyable parts (with and w/o leggings). A shorter version of the Spring Bottoms would be nice as well. Also, make miqo'te hempen set available for everyone (along with the others of course).

I'm withholding judgement until I can try it on; even glams that don't vary by race/tribe can look good or bad depending on which race/tribe is wearing it, in my opinion.

For example, to me, the Dalmascan Draped Top + Southern Seas Skirt looks great on an Auri fem, but doesn't quite suit a Viera fem. OTOH, to me, the Boulevardier's Ruffled Shirt + Varsity Skirt looks great on a Viera fem, but doesn't quite suit an Auri fem.
Not really sure why that is.

It's the scaling (size, height), and animations. Things that are cute will look nicer on something like an au ra, generally.

There are a number of people who say a lot of things. I'd say those shorts are pretty much objectively ugly, and, like I said, I can see why male players would want to wear a new pair of speedos over them. I saw the image with shorts on a female character, it did not change my opinion on the shorts.

I think I was talking about shorts in general, and this years event specifically, as I doubt SE will make these separate. I don't really want bikini bottoms to be replaced by some unisex garbage, that would be horrible! I think we could use more feminine swimsuits if anything!

Yeah I know, like ya said not dyable, and plus we can have soo much more designs/prints/just basic version of it too, there's also stuff like:

Miqo'te hempen would be friggin awesome for everyone, ngl. Plus everything else you mentioned I'd 100% be down for.

There is no such thing. You cannot say that a subjective determination is objectively anything. You can only use the term 'objectively' when you're talking finite things that can be proven or demonstrated. You cannot prove or demonstrate that a piece of clothing is ugly; a single opinion to the contrary proves that incorrect.

Nothing in our universe is objectively ugly. Objectivity just doesn't work that way.

Objectivity is based on facts and reality ("Two plus two equals four is an objectively true statement"), whereas subjectivity is based on your own personal opinion ("Those shorts are ugly...")

It's really important to distinguish the two. One is you in your own head and your opinions. The other is the real, outside world and how things actually are.

Even if they were two separate items, I have no doubt that they would still be gender locked. So I am not sure if that actually fixes anything for you.

I think the point folks are making is that if they were two separate items, even if they were gender-locked right now, you could possibly unlock them at some future point.

But in having them be the same item that just appears differently based on who equips it, you more or less ensure you can't ever do that, at least not easily; since everyone has the same item, either you'd need to turn all the ones women had into the shorts (and then let them get the bikini bottom separately) or all the ones guys had into the bikini bottoms (and then let them go get the shorts separately if they wanted those).

(Now, you can always introduce two new separate items down the road which share the model but have slightly different colors or different patterns, and I suspect if they ever give us unlocked versions, that's what they'll do.)

For all that my main character's aesthetic tends to get described as "tomboyish", "practical", or -- for more elegant stuff -- "dapper", and swimsuits are not a usual part of it... I'd actually be on board for this. Most of the swimsuits I can think of in-game are variations on like... two different models, with different colors or patterns. Some other options -- a one-piece suit, something with a swim-top more like the miqo'te hempen chamise, whatever... -- would make for a bit of welcome variety.
