I get it, some people aren't musically talented enough, some just want to play songs, and I feel that is fine if you are just playing for your friends and such.

But what bothers me is when you pretend you ARE playing songs and acting as if you are so great because you let a third party tool play it for you.

It's really annoying walking into towns and just hearing it sound like people just throw midi keyboards down a flight of stairs.

There are people, such as myself, who actually practice playing these songs, and we get immediately overshadowed by people who just press play on a program. There is no competition, we lose because it's impossible for us to play songs at a normal place without either conforming to third party software ourselves, or hooking up an actual midi keyboard (which I would be more okay with!).

I think the bard macro playing has gotten way out of hand. It's really annoying and off putting.


Playing songs is one of my favorite things to do in FFXIV, I practice for hours every single day, and now I have to turn off performance completely because it just isn't fun anymore trying to play music for people, but getting immediately decimated by someone who can press play, make a sandwich and come back without putting any effort into learning any song what so ever.

The Solution is easy.
You detected that you practise these songs which takes a lot of time instead using a program which can do it automatically.
Sorry but that's your fault.

Is it easier that way? Yes
Do you safe a lot of time? Yes
Does anyone except you care who just wanna enjoy music? No

It seems like you are just angry that you:
a) wasted a lot of time practising these songs or
b) don't know how to use these programs.

In other words: Deal with real problems, this isn't one.

They could be lying. People lie all the time. Gonna need to see a signed and notarized confession along with proof the program is on their computer and they were the ones using it.

But really what does anyone care? Can whine about it not being fair that people break the rules and get away with it, but you will accomplish nothing. And really you just come off as a pathetic killjoy. That kid no one wanted to play with growing up cause you would tattle on anyone who used a curse word.

There are also people who spend days making midi files to play those songs.

Its not like they magically just load up an mp3 file and play it ingame.

they 100% are breaking ToS for using a 3rd party program, but how can you tell.

No, no in fact we shouldn't. As you no doubt have seen and heard most if not every possible argument against this, I'll add in my own voice to the mix.
It's not a competition, it's sharing music. Plain and simple.

That fact alone should be reason enough to live and let live. No matter where you go, some people will lie about things they can't do. But, they aren't everyone. People have put both time and love into their creations, and performances. "Bard Macro Payer" has helped those both musically inclined and not share something that means a lot to them, good or bad. Inside a *game* that they also enjoy spending time on. There is no Performance (Savage), please stop treating it like so.

Take pride in what you do, sure, but don't be a rump when others need help to share. If people decide to stop and listen or tip them, that's their prerogative; not yours. I've seen worse gil spent at RP events.

I go to a police station and say I robbed a bank. Should they not question and cuff me given that situation? I simply lied, I didn't actually do it.

If they are straight saying in game that they're breaking the ToS, you would think that's enough to slap them for it. Truth or lie, it's still putting forward Square doesn't enforce rules like that, and that'll convince people to do the same, in much more than just the music area.
