I give it away more than anything. I don't think I've used my gil in years. I don't buy mats, potions, gear, hell even repairs because I just repair it myself.

The only thing anyone should ever spend gil on in this game is food for exp/bonus stats and whatever gear you think you look like god's most favoritest little muffin.
Everything else is so so stupid.
Addendum: do spend money on getting your friends cute things if you are raiding or gposing or just wasting time in limsa. brighten their day.
You absolutely never NEED to buy the newest marketboard gear, houses do not have glamour dressers so they're a waste, and...well thats really all there is to buy isnt there?

On my main? Teleports, rare mats to make glamours, housing items I can't craft myself, high-end gear that's cheaper to buy pre-made than the material cost, and Thavnarian Onions.

On the alt? Teleports, repairs, glamour items, the occasional mount, housing items I can't craft myself, and gear for her retainers since she's still in ShB and can't get EW AF or tomestone gear.

Once the apartments and house are all decorated there won't be much more for me to spend Gil on other than daily necessities and a random impulse buy.

Because I don't do hunts and spend my GC seals on other things. In the grand scheme of things, teleportation isn't a net loss for me so while I try to be as efficient as I can with it, dumping a couple thousand per day isn't going to break the bank. I've got a modest bank account by most standards, but I have plenty to support my play habits and now that I've got a house there aren't any things in the game that I want which cost a lot. I've kind of reached the point where I'll slowly accumulate gil just doing what I want and never really worry about it again.
