Smells like a bait post. Every online game will have toxicity somewhere in the community, thats a simple fact. 14 is no different, but in comparison to alot of the other popular MMOs, its relatively tame. ESO, WoW, heck even less populated games like Neverwinter have 10x more toxic playerbases. If your looking for a cuddlefest where everyone is nice and pleasant, play a singleplayer game. But doing heavyhanded "game toxic and bad" post without even a slight comparison to market competition or mentioning any of the positive bits of the game kinda kills any hope of people thinking theres a drop of critical thought put into it past "am mad give attention".

Big problem with your list is that the playerbase for MMOs, particularly FFXIV, change drastically over time.

The players you were playing with in 1.0, for instance, were not the same players you were playing with in 2.0.

So it follows on down your list. You're listing troubling instances from all over the game's lifespan from distinctly different player bases.

Balmung didn't become the RP hotspot / lewd place till mid-late 2015, really. RPers flocked there once it became designated, and its entire player base changed. It doesn't get GM'd because people there are OK with what's going on, and those that aren't, aren't hanging out in Ul'dah.

Discord didn't exist until Mid May of 2015. Even then, it took some time before folks fully embraced it to the point of advertising Discord servers in game. People joining mid-late Stormblood(late 2017-2018) did that.

Slave morality take for what's supposed to be content that goes to the first person or group that hunts the monster. Honestly, the issue wouldn't be there if old style MMO claiming was a thing. More a design flaw with hunts, than a problem with the community.

If you've played MMOs as long as you claim, then you know before even sitting down to raid that a large segment of anything high end or endgame in an MMO attracts egotists. But a lot of those folks had their egos bruised by 2nd Coil or by Gordias Savage, so the raiding communities between Coil, Alexander, and all the other raid tiers have also changed drastically. The newer anyone is to a stressful thing like raiding, the more likely they are willing to insult others out of defense for their own ego. Again, less a problem with the community. More a problem with human nature at large. It comes from having to identify mistakes and correct them. People hate taking responsibility for any mistake, however small, so there will always be friction in events like this, regardless of what game is being played or how big the required group size is.

The only time I can think of when people yell at sprouts is when the sprout is doing something so grievously wrong multiple times, and refuses advice by insulting the giver(s). People come here from other games, where it's more or less expected you're going to be arguing/bickering throughout something like a dungeon. Generally when they learn that XIV's preference is silent running or loose jokes here or there, they fall in line and are good.

All in all, I think your assessment is wrong, and you should develop a better sense of humor. DBZ Abridged is hilarious, after all.

I am right there with you. Worst experience I had in the game was last night in WoD of all places. I had been learning to tank, knew the mechanics and wanted to try my hand at a raid I knew. I grab Angar and pull him to the center facing north- you know, what every single raid does. The B tank provokes, and I provoke back. He does it again, and one his little friends pops in and types “Stop fighting aggro!” I made the mistake of questioning his magnanimity and get a barrage of insults “incompetent”, “troll”, “trying to ruin the raid” and so on and so forth. Maybe I should have just shut up and let it go, but I defended myself. So it went on for the rest of the run. I shot back, because why should anyone just take the abuse. But it was an instant decision made unilaterally by another alliance, no word about a mistake, no attempt to correct. Just a provoke and you’re done troll. That alliance needed up getting into a flame war with another guy in A, which was pretty funny but still, I just wanted to try my hand at main tanking and did what everyone else does. So, do you just get bullied and take it, or fight back and let 7 a-holes from Coeurl act like 6-year olds for the next 25 minutes? Yeah this was specific, and if one of the d***bags from Coeurl sees this, you’re a bunch of tools. But this is a thread about the game community, and if I try to MT again who’s to say the same thing won’t happen again? Sure sounds like fun

for a year, would you rather be secretly filmed at random moments and have the footage uploaded to your social media or loose $100 when ever you said a curse word?

Which is why this game needs blacklisting DURING instances. There's literally ZERO excuses not to have this functionality, WoW has had it for a decade now. I don't care if they save the blacklist on a file on your computer, if syncing to a database is too hard for their programmers.

I just don't like the bigotry and self righteous, some of the discords can be, some players and community leaders should never had gotten them into the positions they are into for an instance.

And claim they run the DC's

its practically a guarantee they did. but if so, and if they are indeed "leaving" why not post on a character that actually has done something? that way their assertation of years of abuse might actually appear bona fide

Dweebs who are bad at social skills irl tend to have those same bad social skills in an mmo. Big whoop.

It wasn’t unique to EverQuest, it wasn’t unique to WoW, it isn’t unique to FFXIV, and it won’t be unique to any other mmo in the future. I’ve seen the same sort of socially-tone deaf people across many different games; I don’t consider them representative of a problem with “this game’s community.”
