People begging for gil everywhere, please leave me alone already.

In the past few weeks people begging for gil are everywhere.

I've not ran into one person begging, and I played.... erm.... sixty hours last week, give or take. Half of that during peak times.

What is it you are doing that's setting you up as a target for solicitation?

Blacklisting isn't an answer, and to be frank, I find it ridiculous almost to the point of being unbelievable that you've filled an entire blacklist with people soliciting you for gold.

This is like when I hear people talking about how they 'constantly get hit on' or 'all the sexual remarks' that are directed at people playing female toons. Like, fair enough if it happens once, or even twice, but to have such a thing happen all the time... you're doing something wrong. I've played female toons in online video games since you could do such a thing, and I can't remember ever getting hit on. And the younger I was, the less armor my female toons wore.

I exist on the same Earth you folks do. I play the same FFXIV. Is it reasonable to believe that some people will need an entire blacklist to protect themselves from solicitors, while other players in the same game are never even approached by a solicitor.

a big part of this is data center. i rarely see anyone begging for gil on crystal, but boy do i see lots of people trying to get cash shop items (especially the new streetwear)

I'm guessing it's an EU thing. I haven't seen it happening here.

Put me down in the "never seen it" camp. Ive seen PF listings for people who want free mogstation stuff(and actually more then a few people offering to give away money), but just straight up "give me money" PFs are rare and ive literally never gotten a tell asking for gil.

To go off on Breakbeat's tangent though, i have been hit on... maybe 2 dozen times in the years ive been playing? If i answer i give the most generic non-interested response i can think of and they all(so far) have gotten the hint. Would i hyperbolize and say it happens constantly? Of course not, but i have run into it more then a few times.

I have characters all over the different NA data centers, but I havent seen anything like this. Maybe im just missing it? Most of my time im just sitting in the Gold saucer, so I dont spend much time in any of the major citys. The most ive had was someone asking me how to do certain things like lvling alt jobs quickly or know the tells for some of the gold saucer events.

Oh, you should see Primal's pf. Players are asking for mogstation stuff, mostly from Behemoth.

Funnily enough, on Exodus there's a guy always in PF telling people he's giving away gil and to just /tell him for the trade. Usually hangs out in the Carline Canopy or Drowning Wench. Asked him once what the occasion was or if he was OK (thought he was dumping his gil before he quit the game or something), and he just said he does it for fun. Didn't grab any gil from him personally, but I still see him all the time.

You are correct with the PF begging though. Usually when a new glam comes out, crafted or Mogstation, there's at least 3 people begging for it. If you can afford your sub, you can afford to cough up the money for whatever on the cash shop, and if you can't fit it into your budget, just wait until you can. If you have enough time to beg for gil, then you have enough time to gather/craft/sell items to make your own bank. I just don't get people like this.

Chaos data center certainly doesn't have the same gil economy as say Aether. So what the OP says is true because I have a toon on Omega when they opened that server, over time I would see those sometimes, and be like why you so poor? lol

There are probably a lot of newer people who don't even know why their server was tagged as "legacy". The gil discrepancy was rather large to begin with in ARR so they tagged the old ones and tried to economically level set the others with lower housing prices and the like.

There's been people in the pf begging for cash shop codes and even more infuriating is that it works sometimes.

I can't imagine being so desperate for human contact that you just give away cash shop codes only to be then abandoned when they inevitably use the code on their main.
