Glamour restrictions: a hinderance to creativity

The art direction in the game values theme much more than armor weight, so and so that it's actually uncommon for a set to actually have all 3 armor weights to match. ARR probably had that more common, but ever since HW, the overall silhouette caters to the theme of the place it came from.

Idk why people keep the "armor weight and silhouette should be preserved" argument when it objectively doesn't hold.

Also... It's beyond me why some people think that limitations = more creativity. It would be true in real life when you literally can think about countless options on, for example, how to make a cellphone stand yourself when you can't buy one. This is a game, where we get limitations of limitations (since we can't actually design our own stuff).

People wants no limits because they can just slap a gear they want that other class have. Instead of finding alternatives.

its not literal. you cant marinate a hat. or you shouldnt anyway.
you seem to be of the opinion i want to use preexisting sets and glamour plates on the wrong class. this is a misunderstanding.

i want access to individual pieces to create glamours that are not currently possible. which is, inherently, mathematically, more creative than using a smaller selection of pieces.

There's a bunch of instances where restricted glamours are seen being worn by npc's with the restricted jobs. It's insulting.

It just tells me that there's more to the restrictions than a deliberate "we don't want you to wear these things as that class" – I really think it comes down to a technical issue of how the glamour system relies on equippability but the NPCs don't have the same limitation.

If your "chef with five ingredients" has to come up with the same number of unique dishes as the chef with 20, then yes, they are arguably having to be more creative for the same end result.

Yes, we can mathematically create more glamours out of 20 sets than five, but there's also (unless you're wearing a new glamour daily) a limit to how many glamours you can realistically create and wear on a regular basis.

We have a lot more than five sets per class to work with in the current system, and while having access to other roles' gear would add more, that's not the same thing as having "not enough" currently. It would simply take us from "lots of options" to "lots and lots of options".

I'm not immune to finding impossible outfits that I'd like to wear if class locks were lifted, and I wouldn't argue against them being listed, but I still think the current system gives me a good number of options to work with.

Constantly repeating how there might be technical issues doesn't mean that everyone who wants glamour restrictions removed will suddenly change their mind.

Nobody is arguing that there's a severe lack of variety, its just annoying how many good pieces there are that are underutilized because of the role restrictions. Also, considering that more often than not, sets share the same theme between roles, most pieces are interchangeable and would give us more options from that specific theme. There's also certain pieces that I wouldn't wear on a certain role, but would look amazing on another.

Of course, if they ever remove the restrictions, people can still stick to a single role if that's their wish.

Well, what if I want to have shorts with long stockings (YoRHa scouting leg piece) on a caster? What if I want a long cape that is not tattered as a Ninja? There's literally no way to achieve those silhouettes.

It's easy to find, for example, ways to make a caster use heavy armor... But when it comes to details, the limitations are more of an annoyance than anything else. For another example on that... sometimes the same item on different armor sets have missing details, like a shoulderpad, and that also can impact the ending result of what I'd want to achieve.

Another thing that is hard to access with the limitations are gloves that simple and sleek and cut your sleeves up there... the only two examples of such are the Republican Caster gloves and Bozjan scouting gloves. There's no way I can achieve the same effect with other jobs.

I don't even think it's a technical restriction issue just a universal design choice, as FFXIV isn't the only MMO with equipment restriction transmogs based on class. Yeah NPCs wear mish mash of clothing items that don't reflect the class because the people that work on npc designs are obviously only going for making them look unique or cool

Which further alleviates the idea that YES it would be really nice if there weren't any class restrictions for glaming equipment.

cape of happiness? it's a lvl 1 item, so your new level 1 NIN can actually use it.
moonward of scouting? This one's a lvl 90 though, so you might have to work a bit.
