You can say this all you want, but I've been on Balmung since ARR released and could count incidents of toxicity on one hand. Content is usually a bunch of people saying hello, cracking jokes, and being silly. Even when a lot of wipes happen, people usually are supportive and encouraging("we'll get it this time friends!").
I don't believe for a second that someone is experiencing rampant toxicity on this data center as I've got literally thousands of dungeons, trials, raids, etc under my belt here and simply don't see it. And new folks are always commenting how nice the community is in the game.
One person having a few bad experiences over the course of 9 years? I'd buy that. Constant and unrelenting toxicity though? No way.
If anything the actual community doesn't say anything. They'll just quietly disband.
I can confirm, I have faced exactly the same issues, the problem with the people is that I don't care at all about this should have taken the advice and quit, if that list are the worst points you could find1. From the very start of 2.0 I've had people tell me to kill myself or that I should quit. One instance i remember is doing Amdapor Keep for the first time and we all wiped on the last boss cause the Tank rushed in and no one knew the mechanics. Told me directly I should quit and how horrible I was when I asked if we could try again. This was very common behavior in this time period.
2. Poor GMing. You'll have some people catching bans but them you take a look at Balmung shout chat and see people talking about animal genitalia, their mods that give their characters animal genetalia, you can see people in the shout chat talking about other fetishes nonstop all day and people who have done it for years which I won't name but just spend a few seconds there and you'll see some disgusting dialogue being spammed. Even in say chat.
3. People promoting their Discords 24/7 in party finders, shout chats. These same discords dictating content like Eureka nonstop. Making it hard to even get anything done since a Discord decides it wants to control BA and you're not allowed. You have people insta pulling everything so people miss out cause no one cares.
4. Hunts all the years of them getting instapulled and people missing out.
5. From Coils, to Alexander, to Omega, there and so on. Extremes as well and Savages. You'll find more and more unsavory people cursing at each other and they don't get banned. Telling people to quit the game.
6. You got people screaming at novices cause they don't know every mechanic before a fight in a basic 4 man leveling dungeon cause they are so tired of farming tomes they take it out on others.
I'm sorry but this community is not good in any sense of the word nor has it ever been no matter what anyone says.
And with that, I am done with this game. Been here since 1.0 but I'm ready to move on to something else like offline games.
then ffxiv is doing pretty good being a bad community lulw, if you still read this my lala is wearing a bikini now because I know it will give people a bad gut feeling.
Manners are chosen, they shouldn't be forced. We're talking about a game where people are so afraid of ToS nobody speaks openly. If someone messes up, nobody wants to say anything because of ToS. But then it's perfectly acceptable for somebody to be stalked for 6 months+, keep reporting it to the company and nothing happens.
Considering the company won't even let people talk openly in the new PVP mode, it gets to the point where efforts to quell toxicity actually damage the game in the long run by treating paying customers as if they're children and not adults.

Single post troll. Nothing to see here. Moving on.1. From the very start of 2.0 I've had people tell me to kill myself or that I should quit. I'm in this game since 1.x too(with my older account, not steam). And I had some inccidents with toxic people too. But it was very rare in my case. In fact, only 4 times. All of them evolving around FC dramas or things related to rp/erp.
As we get older, we tend to care less about other's behaviours. It's like we develop a resistence to dramas or a resilience to shitty people. But in a first reaction to bad stuff, we tend to close ourselves from others. But this reaction make us blind to the nice aspects of the community. The majority of people playing this game is very receptive, kind and friendly. Yep, there are some weird people, some degenerates, some selfish drama queens, some endgamers that loves more numbers than themselves... yes, but this is not the majority. Just ignore them, leave them alone, log in to have FUN and not to feel bad. For endgame content, try to find nice people to make a static. For chill moments, go for FC houses and not Ul'Dah's venue of decrepit people...
If a game don't give you the fun you are looking for, just go for another. But never forget that bad people exists everywhere and we have to deal with them from time to time. To create a security shell to protect yourself is an extreme measure and only leads to "sadness". Everything is gray, so the community is not made only by bad stuff... you have just to adapt yourself and develop the resistence to shits.

If the rules are the only thing keeping people nice then I will keep the rules, please and thank you. I have only been playing just over a year but I can count the toxic experiences with other players on one hand. Famfrit/Primal. I also don't touch hard content with a 50 foot poll, so maybe that is the difference.
