If you can't see the shear selfishness in this because this player knows full well that housing is a limited luxury in FFXIV, then I honestly don't know what else to tell you.

No one in FFXIV is entitled to a home, yet everyone thinks they are. Everyone also thinks they are entitled to a large or a medium at the least, which is why so many smalls were left with 0 bids when the entry periods ended. Those could have been easily picked up by anyone willing to settle on a small during earlier entry periods, and I'm quite sure a select few players realizing this swooped one up without a second thought.

tl;dr? I strongly suggest coming to terms with the fact that housing is finite. I don't say this to be a jerk, I say it for your own well-being for crying out loud. This is not the kind of thing to stress over. Seriously.
They actually advertise it as one of the major features of the game and you certainly aren't paying any less if you don't have one.

Not only that, but comparing how other games do their systems is good and healthy. It's especially pertinent when the devs keep saying things like "It's not possible to do x!" when you see half a dozen other comparable games do that very thing. That means it's not impossible, it means they just don't want to for some reason and they aren't telling us why.

Realistically, it's just something they don't focus on because the devs are seriously out of touch with what the playerbase wants prioritized on a lot of issues. That's been fairly obvious for a few years now, mostly with things like Hrothgar and Viera, but it's definitely started to leak over into other aspects of the game. Though I guess things like housing have actually been an issue for like 5-6 years at this point, so maybe it's the other way around.

IMO, there's a bit of arrogance with FFXIV devs that didn't used to exist. If you watch an older live letter compared to one nowadays, it's night and day how much more ego is involved in everything.

What other reward in the game is so limited in quantity that a player might never be able to get it despite putting in large amounts of time and effort? Doesn't it seem strange to you that "entitlement" is only a problem in this one specific area when SE is so accommodating in all the rest?

You know why there were so many small houses left with 0 entries in the earlier lottery periods? It's because they were in the FC wards. If you're trying to get a personal house, you can't bid on the ones in the FC wards. The personal wards filled up fast once we got past the 0 bug. The only houses left were those being vacated by owners who relocated to other plots.

MMOs do not thrive when popular content is limited to access by the lucky few. That's why you almost never see such systems implemented outside of PvP, with those limitations at least gated by skill-based competition.

I don't think that's true. The differences are more from improvements in production of the Live Letter than any negative change on the part of YoshiP and Foxclon. They're probably more relaxed because they no longer need to worry about whether the game is going to still end up dying after all the work they put in to save it.

If there is a problem, it's upper management juggling things behind the scenes to move FFXIV resources to their other IPs. That sort of thing is normal in most companies running multiple projects but they have to be careful they don't drain the project that's making the others possible or everything can fall apart.

Not sure I agree. There was a lot more humility and humbleness because they seemed genuinely thankful folks were playing the game after the mess that was 1.0 and that sentiment lasted a very long time. It's what fostered a large part of all the goodwill the game got. That sort of thing doesn't really happen nowadays, especially relevant with how many issues the game seems to have with every patch lately. It's not that they have bad attitudes or anything, far from it, it's just that they act a lot differently now.

If anything, I'd say they seem less relaxed and more stuffy compared to earlier LLs.

This post reads like those from people who have a house or, at least, FC house privileges who are desperately arguing to maintain the status quo because it makes them feel artificially special.

Everyone pays the same sub to access the game, those who have housing have access to a feature not everyone can have due to those limits. It is not selfish to want to access a feature you are, in effect, paying for. What is selfish is the many posts from those with houses in favour of the system as is because, realistically, the costs of these servers are paid for by our subs so those without are paying for something those with have, no matter how small a part of our sub that is.

The mentality that everyone else should just "come to terms with the fact" that those who have houses "got theirs" is incredibly toxic. Realistically, players who have houses, personal or fc, that actually believe this rhetoric should demolish them because if you're happy to accept that not everyone can have one then you should be fine without yours.

edit: Obviously, there are people with housing that actually empathise with those who don't and want to see the system change which this is not directed at. Only those who want to gatekeep housing

It’s a question of money for me. I think maybe the developers would like to offer more houses for the players but there’s square enix that has to say no because it takes more means to do that. That is why many players are so frustrated for economic reasons.

Those wards have been opened up for months and a lot of NA people who were previously on EU servers (they thought it was the land of plenty) are taking up the spots there.

The problem is the devs wanting to have an dead system in the game. This wards just not work as SE want them. No one ever in them. On top of it we got 2 more parts of houseing. Apartments and island. Why not make the fucking island a full on house system?

And yet the demand for plots in the ward far exceeds the supply, new wards sell out very quickly, and people are throwing fits over the possibility that housing reclamation might be turned back on.

By those objective indications, ward housing is a huge sucess, and about as far from a "dead system" as imaginable.

I suspect the poster was referring to the amount of activity most players see going on in wards as opposed to whether players use houses at all. When I'm outside of my house, it's extremely rare that I'll see another player. In that respect the ward is "dead".

I wouldn't call ward housing a success when wards are the only way to get a house or specific features that are only available with a house. You can't tell if players are buying them because they genuinely like the wards or because that's the only way to get what they want.

I think by dead they meant nobody's ever seen wandering the wards.
The system is certainly utilized, but that's a given since it's the only housing system we have.
