Gonna disagree with you. It does what it suppose to until you use it. After you use it, you have a chance of having someone stun you right after breaking free. Your only other option is to use barrier and once you do that you are a sitting flag to be jumped on. It basically tells other players you are at your last resort and once you lose it, you will be targeted by the other entire team.

Can I ask what do you play as? Because if you're a tank, that would explain a lot cause I can get away with that too when I play my PLD. But when I play anything else, I'm gonna tell you right now that doesn't always work out. healers and DPS classes can feel pretty squishy if stunned for too long. If you manage to get time to hold it off purify, you can get the other team to cast all their stuns on you thinking you'd use it right away but there's also a good chance someone waited till you broke free or your current stun wore off.

In the end, the issue is you can keep someone stunned and incapable of escaping for a long period. Especially if the other team manages to time it right. I've had it happen about 50% of the time I'm playing between a new match.
