Does anyone else find a lot of the stuff on the mog station extremely expensive?

I don't think FFXIV is really bleeding players. It's gradually gained players in reality. People are taking breaks, not quitting entirely.

the game will only ever gain players as a technicallity.. the number of players will never go down..

my mum could install the game give it a go. quit after an hour.. but she will have permanantly pushed the player count up by 1.

thats why those big numbers you see on social media and stuff are often misrepresentative of the truth.. the ads on facebook for example boast over 26 million players but what that means is 26 million people HAVE played. not 26 million people DO play.

You think they're bleeding money, but they've actually brought more people on and are getting more done. It may not be all that some people want, but more is happening with the game than before.

I am curious to learn the basis for that sort of accusation (and it is an accusation, not a fact).

One certainly hears the words "billion dollar company" in relation to discussions of the amount of money Square Enix takes in because of Final Fantasy XIV. They also speak about the fact that FFXIV is making more money than any other portion of the SE digital entertainment divisions (false, by the way). One can easily determine the net sales for the MMO division, as well as the single-player and online/mobile game divisions, by looking at quarterly reports.

Square Enix is indeed a "billion dollar company", but the entire MMO Division brings in less than 25% of the total net sales of the Digital Entertainment business for the company. (source: https://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/i...22q4slides.pdf)

From postings in the forums, players appear to be of the opinion that FFXIV "makes all the money" for Square Enix. Those people were right exactly one time, nearly 10 years ago.
