Don't like grinding and experiencing an MMO game?I'll use the same argument the pro-PL group like using: "don't like Level Sync? Don't use it."
Between the two evils, Lv.Sync is quite obviously the lesser of two evils as it has proven to save an entire game from its grave, Lv.Sync is actually useful and allows veterans to play with newbies in ways that PLing doesn't.
Guess what?
....
DON'T PLAY IT!

Which game are you referring to?I'll use the same argument the pro-PL group like using: "don't like Level Sync? Don't use it."

Once again, Level Syncing is just another way to Power Level. there is no lesser of two evils, it is the SAME THING AS POWER LEVELING. a linkshell with a bunch of people could easily power level a character by just grouping with them. Level Syncing is a means to Power Level, there is no way around it the entire system is geared toward helping your low level get up levels. Your asking for SE to give more Power Leveling. just play the game like everyone else. level Syncing is the least needed feature for this game
Incentives?
I was "incentivised" to level my Gladiator by the fact I could blow through levels with PLing. You can call it what ever you want to, its the same thing. If everyone loved leveling, they wouldn't need to "incentivise" players with methods of circumventing the process. Some people want to skip to the end and do end game content with their friends, if you or anyone else doesn't, that is your business, no one else's. The fact is that there currently isn't enough content along the way to max level to keep everyone entertained. Yay, grinding level after level at the captor camp for the 7th time! Can you feel the excitement?
On the topic of WoW's instant 80, how would something like that even affect your leveling process when the fact is that they needed the "incentive" of an instant 80 to even come back? Even in a game like WoW with more ways to gain exp (in a fully remade questing environment) than any other MMO, there are people that are tired of leveling.

I support the ideas of both PL and Level Sync.
The Level Sync system implemented in XI was great for people who didn't have 75 jobs (such as a 55 drk) and were willing to level at lower camps for exp. Like jungle, qufim, etc. It really made it nice to know while "I can't get a party @55 but I can go level w/ my LS friend in jungle cool!" Now it wasn't perfect, it was a little late, and overall just not very popular it DID have a significant impact on the way people leveled jobs. I remember dunes parties getting just as much exp if not more than merit parties. It's crazy, but it happened.
I really enjoyed the system, and hope they implement it in FFXIV as well before it's "too late" to make it the norm.
Now with PL many people i'm sure can remember dunes PL, qufim PL, jungle PL, and all you had was an extra person who was high level curing outside the party. This lowered the overall needed skill of the newer players but relieved the hassle from people leveling sub jobs & other jobs to 75. Now with FFXIV we have a completely different way to PL people. We actually have two new methods....
1) 1~7 people getting PLd are in a party, invite the high level player. The high level aggro's mobs and then drops or gets kicked from the party and he/she kills the mobs. This is great exp for the 1~7 people and makes leveling really fast. As most people have said though, it also means nobody is doing any "work" besides the PL in order to level. I acknowledge this method but I don't fully agree with every job being leveled this way. (It's hard on the PL, and very bad for players leveling their main job)
2) 1 ~ 3 people are in a party with an outside PL. They fight monsters their level or higher and PL nukes the monsters to death. This requires coordination by all active members, allows for player deaths, and teaches them how to target/attack/move in battle. Now it's not a substitute for leveling on your own in a party, but it's a huge difference between the first method. When I PL people, I tend to do this method especially when they are doing THM or CNJ. I usually have them cast fire & cast with them an instant later as my THM. This let's them learn how to time nuke, because if they jump the gun they die and if they wait too long the mobs move away from each other or I kill them. I've had a lot of success with this method, and for the purists out there who believe in no PLs then that's fine but I would submit this question to you.
Q) If you had a close friend who just started the game, and you had no job within 30 levels of them how would you handle their first experiences with the game? Would you let them get discouraged by having to solo everything without a PT? Would you make a new character? What would you do to ensure this person didn't quit out of shear boredom/frustration with the current leveling system.
I feel like we should all understand WHY we play these games. It's to have fun, and NOT to be forced to endure such hardships as FFXI. I played that game for 6 years, did I love it? Yes, but it was grueling, tough, and downright unfair sometimes. I wouldn't expect or ask a person new to MMOs to play FFXI with me, it's just too hard. But I would expect them to try FFXIV and they would most likely enjoy it.
I think someone hit the nail on the head when they said that there is not enough lower level content to keep one occupied or interested at those levels. When you have other MMO's out there that give you that lower level content to where you don't even realize that you are leveling your character it's hard to go back to a FFXI style grind. Another thing is that when you get PL'd in this game it alleviates the need to update your gear all the time which can be a real pain imo.
There's no lower-level content because everyone and their grandma wants endgame content and because everyone wants to just rush the low levels like its some sort of disease.I think someone hit the nail on the head when they said that there is not enough lower level content to keep one occupied or interested at those levels. Not exactly, as I was being sarcastic.
I don't agree with any game mechanic (outside the scope of intended method of progression) which forces the vast majority of its population, who seek to experience the game in a group effort (Hello MMO!), to have their gameplay restricted to essentially not playing the game due to the probability that 50% of the community agree with PL, and another 25% don't care, which leaves a minority bound to the 'playing' preferences of the lazy majority.
If I have to say it again, I'll just draw a picture.
