Hermes seems to be such a badly written mess that I don't think they can do anything with him that doesn't dig a deeper holeI find it ironic that for all the love he supposedly had for life, the "trial" Hermes decided to subject the Ancients to ended up wiping out countless species as well.
It also makes me question what his take on the third sacrifice to Zodiark was, given that it would've been a gross violation of his moral standards. Did he simply abandon those ideas once he joined the Convocation in favor of adopting the same "for the greater good" mindset as everyone else?
I'm kind of hoping we get some insight into that in a sidestory.
