to add to that, it's also ignoring that the 4th of july is generally more of a "party" holiday. for every 1 person that totally wants to stay home playing videogames there are probably 2 who's day planning is listed as "blowing stuff up and partying with friends"

I'd challenge that. I hated having to drive home from my Mom's house on the 4th because it's such a "hold mah beer an' watch this!" sorta holiday. Not only did I have to deal with the normal idiots on the road now I had to also deal with the drunks (or worse). At least the fam was fine with us holing up at home for New Year's Eve.

We live far enough away now that when we visit we're in a hotel that's only five minutes away so not so hair-raising.

I work in IT, and when I worked for a Fortune 500 with international sites, we absolutely took local holidays into account when planning maintenance. It's a common practice.

The firms I worked for with scheduled deployments absolutely did them during holidays. Doing them during business hours would have a significantly negative impact on revenue. For Square the consequence is a brief hit to customer satisfaction, the effect on revenue is less well defined.

That Square Enix doesn't is unusual. Not like the US isn't a major market.

Not unusual to ignore minor holidays (by minor I mean localised and outside of Easter, Eid, and Christmas), more the norm, I think.

America's 4th of July isn't any more important or impactful on a global scale than Tonga's "Anniversary of the Coronation of King Tupou I", New Zealand's "Waitangi Day", Australia's "Invasion Day", or France's "La fête nationale".

And yeah, I've worked for fortune 500 in the 50-55 range It means nothing.

When its one of the biggest contributions to the game, I think it does revolve around said country a bit. There's nothing wrong with people wanting to play this on their day off, and being upset about it. I think you just want to watch the world burn, and are acting heartless to the millions of hard workers who barely have time for their real lives, and to play this game. They should be able to play as long as they want today.

For those going off the census data. Those numbers are the number of characters present on that data center. The numbers for america do not represent only American players. Sorry to burst your bubble but, the NA data centers are home to players ranging from Canda to Brazil as well. They also do not take into account players who are not playing on their regions data center.
