When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
I work in IT, and when I worked for a Fortune 500 with international sites, we absolutely took local holidays into account when planning maintenance. It's a common practice.
That Square Enix doesn't is unusual. Not like the US isn't a major market.
Not in the gaming world. Blizzard, amazon, bethesda, daybreak. None of them take the national holidays of other countries into account. Its nothing new or unusual business as always

in terms of the market, the SE won't miss anything as the new patch will bring subscriptions back. So the faster they get things done, the better for them.
About the game time, if they chose any other day, it would be the same: nobody plays, since it's world wide for 24 hours. So, the day chosen doesn't matter much.
They always apologize for "any inconvenience this may cause" in all maintenance messages in advance. So, we must wait for their work.
About holidays, well, almost every day is a holiday somewhere in the world. And they try to exploit some world holidays (and Japanese holidays) to profit from seasonal events, instead of just not doing their work to respect the holiday. A day not working on their schedule is a day not profiting or building their profits. Making an MMO is always being at work and since they schedule major maintenance like this to happen on Mondays, this is just another regular work day for them. Their concern is to make things work nice and quickly as possible but not to satisfy a specific part of the player base's holiday. This is an industry, a specific one.
to add to that, it's also ignoring that the 4th of july is generally more of a "party" holiday. for every 1 person that totally wants to stay home playing videogames there are probably 2 who's day planning is listed as "blowing stuff up and partying with friends"

Asking on the English forums, just hours before a 24-hour maintenance is scheduled, to change their plans and not update the game, just to suit you. Amazing.

Exactly, they don't lose any money doing maintenance today as opposed to some other Monday. Some people feel annoyed, and that's ok. They can count their blessings if a video game being offline for a day is a noteworthy problem for them.

Regardless if America is a Big Market, that doesn't mean anything really. Maintenance gets done when it needs to get done.
Its 1 day; 24hrs. Sure it sucks its on a Holiday...but honestly people should go out and celebrate their Holidays instead of being cooped up playing games.
If you really want to play games...well...sorry there are other games you can play. What, are you gonna unsubscribe because the company has to update their game? Is it really such a big loss that 1 day; that happens to be a holiday, the game is offline so it can be updated?
The American Playerbase will be fine. SE isnt gonna lose money over this or its playerbase over this.
i am once again asking people to remember that the NA data centres also serve canada, the entirety of south america and many oceania players who don't want to ditch their buddies/FCs/statics and you need to keep that in mind before trotting out generic statistics about how many players are on them.
