Everyone knows it's luck based, there is just degrees of people attempting to justify they rolled the dice more than anyone else.
Anyone with a PvP border I'm just going to look at and go "Oh someone who actually rolled a lot in that lunacy"

The amount of salt people have for CC is hilarious.
Skill still trumps the rng most of the time. I've got 4 characters to Crystal each with less wins than previous.
The one point where the matchmaking has real hiccup is at the absolute top, since it will even out the total rating the people going for rank one have to gamble between diamonds, fresh crystals and alts if there isn't enough other high ranks in the queue.
Your skill doesn't outweigh the skill (or lack thereof) of your 4 teammates and your 5 opponents.
Let's say the teams and skill levels are like this:
Team A
Player 1 - Excellent
Player 2- Crap
Player 3 - Crap
Player 4 - Crap
Player 5 - Mediocre
TeamB
Player 1 - Excellent
Player 2- Excellent
Player 3 - Crap
Player 4 - Mediocre
Player 5 - Mediocre
If you're Player 1 on Team A, you may be able to carry that dumpster fire to a win, however, it is extremely unlikely. This is especially true if there are one or more players on Team B with equal or better skill than you and they decide to start focusing you since you're the only player on your team that doesn't suck.
While having a higher skill level will theoretically/statistically lead to more wins, it doesn't even come close to outweighing all the RNG stacked against you. You can't sit here with a straight face and tell me that your skill level outweighs that of 9 other players. That's not salt, that's just math.
You can only do so much to carry a team.
I've still lost matches where I basically wiped the enemy team using WHM/DRG LB on multiple occasions. PvP is easily where the ridiculous disparity in the skill level of players is the most evident.
Despite all odds some people have multiple characters in top 30, some even in more than one datacenter. Either they know perfectly when to queue up or they just keep outplaying their enemies way more often than taking losses from being unable to carry a bad team.Your skill doesn't outweigh the skill (or lack thereof) of your 4 teammates and your 5 opponents.

Your example is perfect for the rank 1 grind though, the highest ranking person is likely to get a bad team unless they get alts or another top player is in the queue. On ranks below Crystal people are so bad that you can make massive impact in most matches, a lot of mid to high rated Crystal players can rank up with something like 2 to 8 losses over their grind, the unranked to silver bracket being probably the most volatile one due complete lack of basics from most people.
Crystal games themselves can have serious issues due the rating equalizing and Job limits, just because there aren't enough people in queue at all times so the game has to pull fresh / 0 rated Crystals or even Diamonds into games as filler. You can commonly observe people just queue dodging when they know there's a serious problem player on until he gets a game or at times trying to snipe them by playing the same Job. This is the biggest variance that hinders your average grinder, the randomness of no-names and alts.
Skill can overcome randomness most of the time on lower ranks and rating but it will become a nightmare the higher up you go. One of the main problems the current system has is people being able to just sit on their points, which will reduce the player pool at mid to high ratings and result in these borderline uncarriable matches. Everything below should be easy for competent players.
I've been in CC for like 14+ hours today and have not been able to get past Silver 3. I wish I was joking but I have been in Silver hell all...freaking...day. I've gained 8 Malmstone levels and yet can't break past Silver. It's HORRENDOUS.
IMO the rate at which stars decay needs to not be 1 for 1. It's incredibly frustrating to spend that amount of time and see 0 rank progress. You should have to lose 2 or so to de-pip a star given how astronomically RNG based this hell hole is. 1 person can not carry their team, or outweigh the members on the other team.
You can mark, you can use the QC "targeting x" but you can't control if your team is going to run around like wild monkeys wearing their pants on their head... or use their potions properly... or be able to do any damage whatsoever...
Don't even get me STARTED on the complete lack of balance, not to mention the out of control CC. Get CC'd and purify, oh wait... right back into another CC.
If Square literally wants to drive it's players to kill themselves from insanity they're on the right track.

It is most definitely not luck-based.
If you are good, and you are consistent, you will push rank steadily over time. There will be dips and crests but you will see a reliable, steady gain in rating over time, if you bothered to plot each game onto a graph.
If it was luck-based, there would not be people with multiple top-30+ alts. Didn't Yoshida himself say that he got to Crystal with BLM several different times?
MNK has literally the highest sustained DPS in the game. If you don't force them to break combo and peel them, their DPS will dramatically outpace anyone else's over time. That's why MNK is so vulnerable to being interrupted, by the way.
I do agree that Riddle of Earth should automatically pop. I'm not cool with their primary defensive cooldown being effectively negated by just stunning or silencing them at the right time. Not when Macrocosmos pops automatically, and will pop even if the AST is dead.
The solution to MNK insta-gibbing people with the combo is to just give everyone +5000 HP. Burst damage is already a bit too high relative to HP pools, and will probably be worse in 6.18 due to SE's apparent tendency to boost potencies more than anything else. A bit more HP (a bit over 10% more HP for casters and healers, a bit less for everyone else) will go a long way towards addressing that.
I've had 10 kill games and still lost because 3 members on my team were diamond and two members on the other team were in the top 100 on the leaderboards lol. I just stopped caring about my rating a long time ago when I get stuff like that or weird comps like 3 healers or 3 tanks on a single team. I know the mode is supposed to be role agnostic, but we really don't have agnostic roles and those kind of matches just turn into a slow and painful grind of no one dying and the winner comes down to LB spams.
They will do nothing back. The mode itself is ok, even if its a downgrade compared to feast, but this MM who the hell is responsible for this?
Its the worst i ever saw in my life.
