Ya know....I cant really say your wrong. Id also just like to throw in that no matter what the reasoning, if your looking for immersion in an MMO, your already fighting a loosing battle. It wouldnt matter if every single piece of glam was a purely made set of authentic looking midevil armor, someone, somewhere, is still going to dye it hot pink and run around with only the head and chest on wit no pants, gloves, or feet. If you wanna wear trash ARR gear forever to "blend" in cutscenes better thats fine but it aint hurting the game to have not crap attire in it.
Half of all final fantasy main titles are quasi-modern and ALL ff have schizotech.
FF1 Tiamat dungeon was a floating space station in the og release, a giant robot tries to nuke the world in ff4 if scifi or modern shit breaks your immersion so bad you ain't been paying attention to the series this game so religiously references or straightup rips off.

Don't get me started on that set- It looks like that failed "effortless" fashion take but looks like a slob. idk, I just hate baggy clothes & don't like modern glamours in a game that started off with chainmail/ staves & swords- I'm not saying modern fashion doesn't belong in ffxiv since ppl come from many worlds etc I just do not think anyone who wears modern glamours looks good- it's the same with people who think their character looks so original but it's just a pale character with black hair/ white strips & black lipstick. It's just sloppy looking. But that's my take.

I hope we see better designed armors or atleast outfits from the other Final Fantasy games- atleast those have a chance of actually looking good & appease the other plays who hate modern glams

XI the least played Final Fantasy game, and the one that got to be a main sequence number by chance and luck, which is the only reason it's still maintained, and will be as long as Square Enix is an independent game developer.

From a quick search, XI is the 2nd highest grossing FF title, following XIV. Perhaps that may have more to do with them keeping the game around vs. just chance and luck.

100k people playing a video game for 22 years paying $15 a month will do that. It's still one of the lowest distributed FF games, the Sub model just makes a lot of money.

Yes, I saw that list too, however, it's still been a successful game for SE based on gross sales. As this is SE's only other MMO, I think XI very much deserves a spot in the conversation when discussing what we'd like to see/not see in XIV and any future SE MMOs without someone instantly trying to discredit it. It's almost as bad as when someone dares to mention anything positive about WoW.

But anyway, the reason why I even brought up XI in the first place is because it's a FF title which does not mix fantasy/high-tech, whereas you claimed every title does, minus a couple of the super early ones. Was just clearing that up for ya.

Which is funny considering XIV seems to only get away with their Bamco tier cash shop by just keeping the game around. Personally, I wish they would treat XIV like XI. Although I doubt SE has the sense to do that. I'm expecting them to run XIV into the ground like SoE drove EQ2 into the ground, lol.

It's a bit disingenuous to compare games sold vs a game with a subscription. We could put current sales of a game vs how much XI has made but I doubt even re-releases of VII will compare to the lifetime sales and subscriptions of XI.
