How in the world did we end up like this?

Because the majority of the community has done nothing but praise the developers, even when we get a subpar update. The Official Forums have a uniquely high amount of objectivity when it comes to its posters. On any other social media site, you'll see nothing but resounding praise even when the developers do something the hurts the game. Thus, the developers don't see anything they're doing as wrong. Most people posting online don't seem to care, so looks like we're doing something right then! If we want stuff fixed, we need people to start saying that there's something wrong. And I'm not talking about fake criticism where you spend half the time saying that despite this problem you actually love the game and think the developers are God's gift to mankind. This stuff will start to get better when the community stops pretending that Yoshi P and the devs are perfect.

I mean, look at the cash shop. $22 for a outfit? $24 for a mount? And when you buy most items they're only for ONE CHARACTER!?! Really?!? When we're already paying a sub? But no one actually cares enough to say something or put their money where their mouth is so we'll continue to get lazy, cheaply made $22 outfits on the shop so the CEO of SE can get another yacht, while the expansion we paid for only gets a handful of new models outside of the AF gear. Looks like we know where the budget went, and it'll continue to go there unless people start saying something.

I think this is really the main reason. I remember feeling INSANE when I first got into this game back in stormblood and like... there was no criticism of the game that was easily visible? And people were obsessed with worshipping the lead game dev? That has felt bizarre since day one because like... the game has had stupid stuff in it that entire time, there have been awful decisions made, but it still felt like nobody cared or said anything about it, and just made funny little xd cute :3 compilations of yoshi-p laughing at some joke, or pictures of him with a cat filter over his face, or something.

I do feel like the community is... much more critical of the state the game is currently though, which is nice. Maybe if this keeps up we can get another DEFINITELY NOT FORCED live crying session from yoshi-p that makes the whole community conveniently forgive him.

Nothing but bad-mouthing the devs. Heck, even Reddit - a place known for being negative about practically everything under the sun - is positive about FFXIV and EW.

The simple reality is that EW is seen far and away by the playerbase as a fun, enjoyable, successful expansion, and people are overwhelmingly happy about the current state of the game. Thankfully, the devs realize this and give little credence to the attacks and pathetic insults thrown around on the NA forums. Sadly, what happens is the small group of malcontents create an echo chamber here among themselves, and start managing to actually convince themselves that they represent the playerbase instead of the tiniest sliver of the minority that they in truth are.

I mean, just look in this thread at people declaring things as "facts" which aren't by any means, purely personal opinions, and ones in opposition to the opinions widely shared by the general playerbase. It's okay to be dissatisfied with something. But to call opinions as facts and make pathetic, puerile attacks on the dev team doesn't do anything useful.

I haven't seen anybody attacking the devs. I have never seen a single person attack the devs. If you think calling the devs incompetent, or even stupid, is an "attack"... what do I even say to you? This is why the community outside of the forums generally won't level any criticism against the devs, because doing so is seen as "attacking" them, and you'll get genuinely harassed or sometimes what you said will just straight up get removed, so people quickly learn to not voice any kind of negativity at all. There are exceptions, of course, but even then a massive part of the community will defend whatever the devs do, no matter what.

I'll also never forget the sole poster who actually defended the earless hairstyles. Watching that unfold was surreal to me because they were apparently serious about it, there's just no way we can entrust the discourse to people who are willing to excuse that.

Yeah. I knew a few Hroths who initially defended it too and just said to use the in-game ears (which... don't look like cat ears) with the hairstyles and then bam, jellybean hrothgar happened and they all mysteriously went silent.

I still watch this every now and then as a reminder of the time when the game was good and brimming with potential, with all its little imperfections and flavor.

Listen yoshi him self time and time again always says the following. Please provide feedback in the forums. And that what people did minus a few necro and troll post. There where legit concerns about the state of the.

Like many people have said they there concerns will always be drowned out by this "positivity" of the community. Take for instance storage issues when it comes to the buying this from the mog station. Player A) can we have increase space for our storage? Player B ) no its a player issue, you still have items from the level 10 dungeons and you need to clean it and we dont want them to take away there time on creating content

Job changes- When it comes to the changes of the jobs some are good some are not. They do not explain anything to us on why they made the changes. For instance take the current issue with smn and sam. What was the breaking point for smn? only they know and they have yet to tell why. Same thing with kaiten. We provide feed back.

role changes- take the healing role when the skills shown early before the release of the game you gained alot of good skills, lack of dps and they just shorten the cast time for casting said skills. Yoshi him self said what something challenging do ultimate. okay fine people done and completed ultimate to a point where it was one healer clear. If this was suppose to be hard to heal than one healer should not be able to clear it, correct?

Keep in mind that he said all jobs are viable in content which means any healer can solo heal this fight.

However you meet people that would come out the wood works just to insulting people or telling people "oh why you still playing the game if you criticizing it so much" just for
asking for an understanding for these changes.

People can say how they feel, but they are still here subbed, they are still here playing the game, and they are still here buying microtransactions. Yoshida could announce NFTs tomorrow, and they'd be sold out. A few people would state they are unsubbing, but, even if they do unsub (which is doubtful), they will be back sooner than later.
