Give us a gambit version of trusts for multiplayer runs

Been playing XII again and just realized how well that system could work for the Trust system. Give us the option to do multiplayer trusts but instead of it being all ai let us make some decisions on how the characters play.

I think it would make trusts more interesting, more fun, and give it more flexibility for allowing multiple players in one trust run.

They should add the mastery system to the scion(and friends) trusts in ShB and EW. It'd make leveling up the trusts over just using them via Duty Support actually rewarding.

If I recall correctly there is, was, or at least meant to be one like system already- back when Yoshida was talking about chocobo ai.. like 8+ years ago and they mentioned the gambit system (like by word exactly), this was around ARR. Maybe also mentioned again on some machine related content that never ended up coming up- think if I remember a French article correctly.. Also like 6+ years ago, around HW time lol.

Perhaps trusts use this type of thing already, it's just not API revealed to the player in essence. What I mean to say is I wouldn't be shocked if something akin to what you said isn't already in some shape already available as a tool to the devs, given it has been referenced by the devs themselves a few times. At least skeletons of that idea.

Personally I would love to see changes to the trust so they have development opportunities, I like their concept, and using them for first go arounds, but after that I usually just look at them and look more wistfully at my squadrons. So improvements to trusts would be neat, particularly if like squadrons there was investment. I have no stats, but my 'vibe', lol, was that squadrons did not have significant impact to the DF. I believe that you had to invest in them helped (and perhaps also because their AI is worse than a dodo on fire, but... IF you invest in squadrons, the results are absolutely impressive).

Would suggest ensuring the progression system is not levels though, at least in the most generic term (I'm glad they removed the level gating concept). Could still have companion levels, or quest chains, etc. Perhaps you level up an Azim soul stone, or something lol- power of love friendship, the job! Captain planet.. he's our hero..

Now that I have been playing with trusts in FF11 it makes me sad to see how limited trusts are in FF14. There aren't really options for controlling trusts but they are responsive (as long as you attack the target), do more complex things like skill chains and magic bursts and they even use aoe skills, though most of the time for me they have been when I don't want them to use aoe skills.

I just wish trusts in FF14 had more of a purpose other than slowly single target down mobs in a dungeon and relieve the dungeon queue for DPS. Any level of customization of what they do would be really cool and I think they could continue to incentivize players to keep doing roulettes by just making the rewards more appealing.

I think the reason given somewhere was that they're your friends and equals, not a team you're in command of like squadrons, so you don't order them around.

If you select Trusts in-game, that's level gated where you have to level up the ShB/EW characters to use them in the dungeons. If you select Duty Support, you can use any ShB/EW Trust character in any ShB/EW dungeon, regardless of level.

Currently, there's no advantage to using Trusts over Duty Support except that you get to change the characters outfits if you level them up enough. If they made any additions such as masterys to those characters, it would absolutely belong on Trusts which have to be leveled up, rather than Duty Support.

I see what you're saying.. (in effect, currently at least, to me there is no level gating but later if they expand on it.. maybe there is again lol).

I feel like that is excessive system differentiations that could be compiled down into something as simple as trusts DONT have levels to join content but they do have, as you put it, a mastery level or a friend level or literally 'trust' level. So their level is whatever yours is, but their effectiveness is impacted by that other system. Which could include more exciting things if they wanted, like I feel companion quests could be quite fun (giving it Bethesda / Obsidian rpg like vibes).

But yes they could keep what they have as they have it, it just seems a bit convoluted to me (but it totally could work as it is currently, with the level system being expanded upon to have actual gameplay value).

By that comment on convolution, I mean having multiple ways to queue for content under different names and such.. seems unnecessary. I feel it would be far more elegant to have one system that you use and the mastery (or whatever system(s?)) interact on a layer on top of that. Yet, I would definitely prefer any system of progression over no system! haha
