Dear weapon designers, books are the most boring weapon

I still use my Anemos relic for summoner, with its giant glowing dragon wings. Not a huge fan of glowing weapons, but the books are so dull otherwise that I needed something.

No lie. I REALLY like that first one with the crystals. That would legit be sick and would actually look nice and make more sense when summoning the fairies or the SMN pets

Really, I feel that nowadays Summoners get to be so dynamic with the gemstone mechanics that makes me feel that this kind of weapon would make more sense with its fantasy. That's just me though.

I also thought about something like... a Summoner weapon that replaces the glove slot with one of those long ones that give the impression of short sleeves... and on the exposed arm is where the arcane diagrams are going to be painted out, and they will glow when the weapon is drawn out. Instead of a book in the main hand, a small panel made of glowing flat runes would appear, like if the design painted on the arms manifested there.

Not all books are created equal. This one in particular is my favorite and, in my opinion, far from boring.

they had a design contest recently, did you submit anything? do you have any ideas for a changed Smn or sch weapon?

Probably too late now because of lore, but SMNs could get those mechanical staves back while SCHs keep the books. That would be a good way to split the jobs too.

Not just Lore, but a lot of adjusting and replacements would need to be done retroactively (primal weapons, relics, etc)... Plus I bet many book lovers would be disappointed with a weapon type change.

- A case in the shape of a book. When opened, there are crystals that float above that
- An actual magitek or allagan tablet with full holographic display (the ones right now are kind of a mix) - as much as this will really fit a specific aesthetic
- A really tiny notepad that is barely larger than an open palm
- A book with loose pages and when opened, most of the pages get to float above
- A stone tablet with carvings

stuff like that. They all still follow the shape, and some even with pages too, but the silhouette might be really distinct.

In the recent weapon design contest, one of the finalist entries is a "Portable Summoning Terminal", basically an Allagan-style foldable tablet computer. Since it's not a winner, there is no guarantee it will be implemented into the game.

Another is an Othard-style scroll that unrolls horizontally on both sides.

(I personally like the Carbuncle-themed winner "Travel Companion". It reminds me more of an organizer or binder than a book.

Yeah! Those are really nice... I didn't make mention of them (allagan tablet and scroll) because like you said, they didn't win so... chances to be actually implemented are really thin. (But who knows, maybe they'll make a dungeon or something that one of those will fit like a glove?).

When it comes to books, the carbuncle themed winner is really cute regardless... Which makes me wish that the level 90 summons could be glamoured back to carbys to match the aesthetic;

I'd think pop up books, stuff that comes out of the book. But with the way the standard pose looks, it's gonna poke you in the eye.

Casting pose isn't a problem though.
With the crystal above the book that spins faster and faster the closer to the end of the cast bar.
Or radiates the color of the gem responding to what summon they're casting.

Tbh I think this is the hardest weapon to be outside its box.

This would be actually really distinct visually looking! The moogle book has a papercut moogle and looks great. I could see the idea kind of amplified for this concept. I could see that cutout theme being executed with a Wondrous Tails themed book.
