Been playing since launch and I didn't run out of things to do as much as I ran out of inventory and dread the thought of even starting the blue mage or unlocking other jobs in fear of destroying what little space I have left.
The guy you replied to initially specified "Light Party" aka four man. Savage is 8 man.Savage Rewards Mounts. Sure not ALL of them I think, but they do.
Gear is also Glamour, and some Savage Fights reward Unique Glamours...Sigmascape and Alphascape for example. Even the Current Pandemonium Savage.
You can say I jumped the shark a lil bit, because I dont think..or I dont remembered if Savage gives misc rewards or Pets. But EX fights and Dungeons do.
So most if not all content does have Rewards that would encourage replayablility.
Just...it always comes down to...do you want to do it.
Lol, I wasn't even talking about nor did I mention Good Midcore Content.
My point was there is already content in the game; to be clear that is 4-man, that does drop different rewards that offers Replayability.
Also its not Dungeon Design that allows Tanks (Or lets be real, you mean Warrior) to Solo, its the Overtuned Job Design. So Dungeons do either need to become punishing hardcore/Savage, or Tanks (Again..specifically Warrior) needs to be Nerfed.
The original post that sparked the whole conversation was about the lack of midcore content for light parties, thus our reference to it.Lol, I wasn't even talking about nor did I mention Good Midcore Content.

As for dungeons, you'd have to nerf healing on GNB, PLD, and WAR tanks to accomplish that. I more blame how low consequence most mechanics are in the level 90 dungeons moreso than tanks being able to solo the bosses if everyone dies. If tankbusters actually did damage and AoEs had consequence instead of throwing a single heal out to deal with them then you might see the ability for tanks to solo bosses go down a lot. Honestly we need more mechanics like in Dead Ends that give fun things like doom or the esunable debuff from the first boss or much harder ticking dots than what the first boss in the new dungeon does to add a little bit of consequence to mechanics.
With midcore I mean some light party content, which can be pugged, which is challenging (but not savage level challenging), engaging and that offers unique rewards. Content that takes 1 hour max (with most of the time being less) and isn’t like savage where you can spend 5 hours continually wiping to the same mechanic and never clear the fight, and therefore feeling like you achieved nothing lol. Plus it should be repeatable without reward lockouts.
Content in 14 goes 99% easy to 1% hitting your head against the wall. Extreme trials die about 1 to 2 weeks after release and don’t last, plus they’re only really worth doing if you want the mount.
Therefore if you choose not to do savage (don’t blame you if you don’t lol) there is nothing left except running expert dungeons to cap on tomes, and because the cap is so low, you’re done after a couple of runs, plus expert dungeons are too easy, with nothing dynamic about them and offer no interesting rewards, plus really bad gear.
There’s also an argument to say, if you don’t want to do savage, why bother getting tome gear anyway - you might as well buy crafted off the MB and that will be more than enough ilevel for every other piece of content until the next crafted gear comes out.
On one hand it’s nice that in 14, at the endgame, no content is mandatory and there’s no required treadmill, but for me this generates a lot of “why bother” situations.
If you’re in it just for the story and levelling all your jobs +10 levels, that’s completely fine, but when you’ve been around a few expansions you kinda want more, and wonder if 14 is really just a solo experience with a bit of group content tacked on, e.g a lite mmo?
This is what I meant, I can't explain stuff man spare meI think calling Beast Tribe quests long lasting content is arguable, because it literally prevents you from doing it more than once a day.
Sure, it gets you to log in, for the 10 minutes you spend on the daily quests. It is however easy exp once a day which gives it some longevity even after you have max reputation, so I'll give it that.![]()
When did M+ become normal content for open world, theme park MMOs? Granted I haven't played all the MMOs out there but I don't know of any other than WoW that has anything similar to it (probably because of the toxicity the system has ended up generating).
WoW's success did some major damage to the MMORPG genre because too many players think that if a game doesn't clone WoW systems it's trash.
We don't need endless borrowed power systems. We don't need ARPG style loot farms where maybe you get lucky and get a useful item after 100 hours of farming.
There are reasons a lot of us left WoW and have no desire to return. Let's not bring those things here.
The player base for MMORPGs is aging. It has responsibilities it didn't have when it was composed primarily of fresh out of high school kids and so doesn't have as much time to devote to games. If you're a fortunate person who does have all that extra time and a game doesn't have enough content to keep you occupied, there's a very simple solution - play many different games instead of looking toward a single game to fill all your gaming needs. It's okay for games to run out of content. You can stop paying then return when more content is added.
In the end, it depends on what content appeals to you. With midcore I mean some light party content, which can be pugged, which is challenging (but not savage level challenging), engaging and that offers unique rewards. For me the game has a solo experience but it isn't most of the game because I spend a large amount of time on Hunts. Need lasting content? There you go because there are achievements that take months if not years to earn (depending on how much time you can play in a day). I've long since gotten my 10k Rank A achievements because I do a lot of train conducting. The S rank achievements, on the other hand, are way behind because I play multiple characters, don't tend to hop worlds for S ranks, and also enjoy other content. I'm about 1150 into the 2000 S rank achievement and a couple of hundred each on the ShB and EW specific 1000 S rank achievements. I've still got long term goals to work towards if I want the related mounts.
For me, it's a little strange that players come to play an open world MMO then ignore that open world content in favor of playing only the lobby game (dungeon/raid spamming). I mean that's fine if that's the content that appeals to you but it gets weird when someone only does that content then complains about the game not really being a MMO.
