Before getting too up in arms about the lottery, I think it's worth considering the real underlying issue: Lack of supply. Take a look at 20 other of the largest and most successful MMOs, and you won't find a single one where it's as difficult to get housing as FFXIV - even when they're free-to-play and charge no real money (and sometimes no in game money too!) for housing.

Praise Square Enix, this small indie company that has failed to come up with a adequate housing solution for nearly 10 years.

I'm being nitpicky here, but the big kahuna, WoW, does not have player housing. And no, garrisons don't count. Garrisons disappointed on so many levels. So many.

To the back-up bidder for round 1 who never bothered claiming the plot, I really wish you hadn't done that.

You don't know they were a back-up bidder. There were some players who were very disillusioned when the bug hit and they quit playing. They, too, had their dreams and felt SE let them down.

The wrong thing to do is feel anger toward other players over the housing situation. Players are not responsible for the state of housing. SE is.

In the meantime, at least get a small for your Ishgard themed FC

lol yeah you're not wrong, I remember the garrisons. It got famous very very quickly and for all the wrong reasons lmao a complete debacle!

Agreed. This game throws gil at players by the bucket; the only poor players are the ones who play poorly.

When I finished EW, I started my 4th character through the main story line, and that character is not doing anything with the intent to earn gil: just running quests and Duty Finder roulettes. Still, the character currently has over 2 million gil, and that's after spending literally the cost of a small plot on glamour items -- it's hard to find the right healer, tank, and dancer looks for a fem roe.
