I was having this issue often. I did three things, not sure which helped the most, but I've not had it happen since.

#1 updated my video card driver
#2 Took a vacuum and cleaned all the dust that had accumulated around the computer's fan
#3 Moved my computer on my desk so it wasn't stuffed in the corner by the wall to give it better air flow.

I used SpeedFan for the SMART info (Indepth Online analysis) and it came back good with on Power On Hours being below normal but the test said that usually happens. I have reinstalled the DirectX EURuntimes June 2010. The game is currently playable on my External HD that I use for the transfer between the two computers. I am currently Copy/Pasting the files to my second hard drive on the system to try it from there.

#1 updated my video card driver NVIDIA released their new driver last week and I updated.
#2 Took a vacuum and cleaned all the dust that had accumulated around the computer's fan Did this while reseating the hardware
#3 Moved my computer on my desk so it wasn't stuffed in the corner by the wall to give it better air flow. Got the PC in a great air flow area as well.
I reinstalled the drivers for the VID card earlier today with no resolve.

I just want to let you know I have the same video card and driver version, and my game seems to be running perfectly. Hopefully that'll help you rule it out as a possible problem.

Try to not copy/paste the same files to the other disk, if the files have all ready got corrupted on one hard drive you will copy the same corrupt file to the other hard drive. You should reinstall it from scratch.

These files are coming from a seperate system, one that is running the game with no problem. Computer 2 C Drive >>> External HD >>> Computer 1 D Drive.

And the game now runs off of that build. Hopefully this will be the fix.

Signy, I just want to give credit where credit is due. Your's and another's suggestion of SpeedFan led me to my final solution. While using SpeedFan to check SMART I decided to monitor my temps as well. Wouldn't you know it, my case is not a custom case and is just a factory case from ASUS and I was overheating my GPU & CPU. Pretty badly as well. I have taken the side of the case off and put a fan blowing on it. This is a temporary fix until I can find some extra cash to buy the Antec 900 case with multiple fans inside it. Thank you for everyone's help and thank you for taking time out of your day to help a fellow gamer.

Nice, grats on finding the problem. Before spending money on a new case (if you really want it go ahead), you can try to fix the airflow of the one you have. Having a cheap case doesn't mean it can't be good, i have my pc on a very cheap case (have a Phenom II 955 and a ATI HD7950) and everything is under 50° on heavy load. It's all about how you make the air flow throw the case.

This is a typical airflow design (except from the top part):

The main idea is to make a tunnel effect, where cool air enter in the front and hot air get out by the back/side. If you want you can post a picture of your pc so i can tell you what you have wrong.

Ah, another thing, make sure everything is clean, not just the GPU/CPU cooler, check the front panel where the air enter and the fans on the case.

I've been experiencing a similar issue but not when logging in.

I have 3 machines which all run FFXIV perfectly fine. 1 of which is my monster PC i recently built that can play the game very well with the settings turned up pretty high.. but 1 of the others may need to a bit on the low side for it to run well.. either way they run the game fine..

Well, anyway.. at random times, the game will crash for almost no reason at all. sometimes it happens when i'm in the middle of a leve, other times it's when i'm just standing there. more recently it's been happening when i zone in and out of places that require the game to load another area.

being that it was happening on all 3 of my machines i didn't suspect it to be an installation error or problem with the software requiring a re-install but could be wrong.

any support would be much appreciated

the machines are all running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 all of which have the most recent driver updates and windows updates

    Builds

    Desktop
    i7 2600
    16gb of DDR3 ram
    Radeon HD 6900

    Laptop 1 (XPS M1730)
    Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900
    6gb of DDR2 ram
Nvidia GeForce 8700M-GT (recently replaced by dell ^^ )

    Laptop 2 (XPS L702x)
    i7 2630QM
    6gb of DDR3 ram
    Nvidia GeForce GT 550M

Among my over heating issues I fixed another problem with the computer as well that was causing the game to crash. If you have noticed through my notes that I exp'd a problem with my memory with all 12GB DDR3 on my motherboard. Well, when I backed it down to 8GB the problem also decreased in frequency. I replaced all of my new memory with the original memory from when I bought the computer (8GB DDR3, just a lower powered memory) and I haven't crashed once...NOT ONCE.

So, my advice, run the Windows Memory Diagnostics on your troubled PC, reseat your memory, stick by stick, one at a time to test your seats and sticks. Clean out your PC with compressed air to relieve some dust issues, defrag your hard drive, and clean out your temp files.

Let me know where that gets you!
