Unironically do this in PF. Randoms don't care that you had to adjust. They only care that you weren't in your spot. Let the other guy be kicked.

Alright, rare time: I PF’ed for a few Endsinger EX as a DPS out of boredom & to keep me awake until static’s session.

1st PF says ”Let’s farm the cat!”; yeah, no. We ain’t farming it. A RPR in the party constantly siting at 7th in enmity order, being only ahead of the AST. They just stand still in the middle for their personal circle/donut/flare marker. We beat run just 2-3 GCDs from the enrage. Unsurprisingly, the BiS DNC just drop out of the party immediately after we got out & the rest just naturally falls apart.

2nd PF. This time I came in as a DNC. Partnered the NIN in the party. While we’re sorting out clock position, for whatever reason, the NIN took SW which would put them away from max melee range. I took his supposed melee spot (W) cause eh, this is PF. Fast forward for the personal marker mechanic, this NIN made a beeline toward my spot with his circle marker. I tried to adjust but it was already too late. ”I’m melee.” said the NIN… well yeah, duh. We can see that. Several more deaths follows up as the healer forgot juice the party back to healthy range then we basically failed the DPS check at 0.7%. Next attempt I just hang nicely on SW to let the NIN have their uptime… only for them to stack up those Brink of Death debuff from couple of earlier mechanics. Yeah, no: I swapped partner to the party’s RDM. Again, this party cleared really close to the actual enrage time. Unsurprisingly again, one of the healer bails without saying anything, which the rest of party soon follow suit.

3rd PF. Okay. Change of plan. I saw that practice to clear party. How about I join that one instead?

One shot cleared it and did 3 more times of smooth farm rounds.

I have definitely had similar experiences in PF, where a farm party is just a sea of wipes, so you bounce and join a clear group who proceed to be a night-and-day difference.

My theory is that you do enough farm groups and the fight starts to blur, so folks can get careless. A good clear party, folks really want that clear and so they're paying a lot more attention to the fight and respecting mechanics.

(Of course, not every clear party is like that... nor is every farm group one that's getting sloppy after 49 clears without seeing a mount drop...)

To be honest as someone who leveled sch and didn't touch smn much at all, I have no idea how to work Phoenix properly.

Edit: I just realized a few days later how dirty this sounds now.

I think this is the one downside to shared buttons. It's probably just getting lost in people's rotations. Anyone in range is still getting a regen, so nothing seems off.

It's not nearly as bad as the dancers that pop finish on nothing. Talk about cringe.

Last night doing Normal Raid Roulette, and got Fist of the Son. I died to no healing as MT because the NIN in the group pulled while the other tank was in CS(they were supposed to be MT because they were one of those Provoke on CD types...so I dropped my stance at the trash mobs) since the SGE had Kardia on the DRK, and the SCH...Broil only. Nothing else until after our SECOND wipe. Nobody else went for the bombs, I had to run to try and get it...even if someone was right beside the transformation puddle. Nobody else turned into a bird when he was casting Boost. The NIN dropped the green goo puddle right on top of the boss...twice. The other tank refused to move the boss to a corner so the bombs could be smacked into the farthest corner. I contemplated just dropping after the second wipe, but instead I suffered through it then went to play something else to try and regain some measure of sanity.

Spotted yet another of those ”Delaying chain for uptime”-player, in my party.

Everytime I encounter these type of players I’d stop attacking entirely, focus target them, and stand by next to the pillar just in case they forgot the chain has a not-so-long timer. As I’ve predicted: the timer runs out; they dropped the chain. I pick up the chain immediately and reattached it to the “Open Fetter”. Crisis averted, then I typed ”That’s why you don’t hold the chain for too long :/“ in party.

They explained that they wanted to delay the chain to skip the annoying dashes but stated that somebody ‘snagged’ the chain away from them.

Yeah, no. Sorry not sorry buddy. There’s a time limit :/ Nobody can snag it away from you.

Queue into leveling roulette as healer, 1 minute in progress. It’s Castrum Abania. The 2 DPS are talking about job stones - because the GLADIATOR doesn’t have it equipped. I say, “good luck” and bounce.
