There's a pretty obvious solution to the problem of "But this person repeating the same behaviour loop day in day out might not actually be a bot!".
Get a GM to pull them aside for a few moments and ask what they're up to. If they don't respond like a human being, that's a ban.
There's a guy that joins our Novice Network every single day, spamming multiple macros that dumps tons of paragraphs of conspiracy-theory laden text. When kicked, he immediately pivots to relentlessly harassing whoever kicked him in DMs, and sometimes even stalks them around the server in person. This has been going on for MONTHS, and the guy hasn't gotten banned.
But hey, SE gotta ban people for having buff timers on their hud.
And when the "weirdo" never sleeps or takes a break, it should be pretty obvious that they're either some new development in human evolution to help some basement dweller make gil, or they're not human at all. But hey, they can just ignore it if they never look into it.That’s the thing though, they are >>>possibly<<< cheating. It is extremely unlikely that someone is just sitting their all day every day checking the market board and undercutting items… but it is possible…again however unlikely.
The devs have an innocent until proven guilty stance. There is no way for the devs to determine if that person is just a real weirdo who loves selling stuff, or a bot.
the thing with the bots, is as someone mentioned earlier, it doesnt cost much to make a new account and continue doing what they're doing.
theres little point in taking action until your able to prevent the action being repeated.
theres an arms race between bots and the game devs.
eventually they learn better ways to detect or disrupt the botters, a ban wave comes. and the bot makers work to create a workaround and the process repeats.
reporting these things is always helpful, even if the results aren't immediately noticable.
personally i feel action needs to be taken against the people buying gold, it doesn't need to be anything big, a 3 strikes then ban would be plenty appropriate. to deter people buying.
when there is no one to buy gold, the botters cant make money and thus wither away
....
Streamers are STREAMING their ToS breaches which is essentially also a form of advertising it.
It's not strange at all that they get prioritized to be taken down.
If you want to criticize SE for not dealing with cheaters quickly enough then fine.
But constantly bringing up Streamers as if that's some kinda gotcha against SE is just tired.
It's not.
If someone is broadcasting it to the world then yeah it's going to escalate things faster that's just common sense.
I've seen players too that genuinely looked like bots to me but were actual players even in dungeons.
I really wish people would stop with this because it's just obfuscating the actual issue.
If someone breaks ToS then SE are within their right to ban, just because others don't get punished as quickly or at all doesn't change that.
It's not a witch hunt because witches aren't real while people breaking ToS are.
It's just people who are advertising and broadcasting it and then getting banned.
If someone commits a crime while broadcasting it and advertising and talking about the crime they're commiting they're going to get caught and punished faster than someone who does it in secret.
And if the latter gets away with it even after being reported because it's harder to prove or because of some flaw in the legal system it doesn't change what the former did at all.
I think a higher focus on punishing people for buying gold would be the most effective solution yeah.the thing with the bots, is as someone mentioned earlier, it doesnt cost much to make a new account and continue doing what they're doing.

It's kinda unrealistic to expect SE to have GM just sit around looking into and banning bots one at a time ( unless people want it to get sloppy and for innocent people to get banned, there needs to be a thorough investigation ).
They have a lot to do if they started doing that then contacting them with other issues would become A LOT slower.

I agree, there should be a way for a GM to make a call that suspicious behavior warrants at the very least a teleport to jail and an interview. And when the "weirdo" never sleeps or takes a break, it should be pretty obvious that they're either some new development in human evolution to help some basement dweller make gil, or they're not human at all. I can't understand why they don't have some kind of step 2 between "Report/investigate" and "judgment/ban" that allows the GMs to actually intervene and ask questions to parties involved.
you need to report those to the STF and then go on with your life as the STF will do... nothing.
the market bots/cheaters/rmt generators are safe apparently.
GM's are not allowed to deal with this.
the STF has received more than a few VERY detailed reports about this activity.. and it continues. they are likely using a 3rd party bot programs to list, change prices etc. but SE doesnt seem to care.
The streamers dared to piss off Yoshi P by ruining his giga brain plan for free twitter advertisment from World-First-race-he-has-literally-done-nothhig-for. Of course he would publically target a few of them as an example.
Bots? Look, the guys in STF are very busy. Small indie company after all.
Easy, just drag them into GM gaol and ask them some questions. Any real person will be able to answer no problem, but a bot will expose themselves. That’s the thing though, they are >>>possibly<<< cheating. It is extremely unlikely that someone is just sitting their all day every day checking the market board and undercutting items… but it is possible…again however unlikely.
