It's going to take at least a few more lottery cycles for it to balance out, at that point, reevaluating is a good idea. We are still at the point where, Mediums/Larges have a preference over a small, and it is still the best time to ever bid for a medium or large. Once the mediums/larges are gone, the FCs that want a house, that did not win won, will be looking at the smalls so that they have anything, anywhere. Once those are claimed, real evaluations can be made.

I'm pretty much to the point of not resubscribing until they fix housing, period. Either make more districts, instance housing zones, or make the friggin apartments much larger. These stupid crutches just aren't cutting it. Far worse games than FFXIV have done so much better in their player housing content/implementation.

The best part is, their one month waiting period to avoid the issue of exploitative solo-FCs, was eaten up by the "0" glitch. It took them about a month to fix it, and soon shell FCs will be in a perfect position to devour those empty FC wards. The game's already over. Maybe in 4 years when a new housing zone is made we can try again lmao

edit: To make this post more constructive, I'd suggest an attempt at instanced housing (never gonna happen) or just make apartments better. I was crossing my fingers during every endwalker live letter that SE would say something about boosting the furniture cap on apartments. I didn't get my hopes up for an outdoor section (so, y'know, apartment people can take advantage of outdoor furniture or actual gardening too) but I thought we'd at least see an increase in the amount of stuff we can put into our apartments. Nope, nothing. Hell, you can't even own multiple FC rooms in an FC that has empty rooms just sitting there unused. It's so annoying from a purely "I just want to decorate" perspective. Maybe make an option to save furniture loadouts like glam plates, so I can easily decorate my apartment with other themes without losing everything I've already set up. Something to alleviate the issue for people who just want to decorate and didn't ask for all this other BS.

Shell FCs that were made after the announcement of the ward divisions are eligible for this lotto and any created during the first round should be at right at the cusp of becoming eligible. Assuming SE doesn't open the floodgates until 6.2, theres ample time to create and rank up a shell to grab a cottage.

All they need to do to fix this issue is make apartments like SWTOR's.
Start off with an FC room sized apartment then pump more gil into it to upgrade it to small/medium/large house size inside. it's all instanced housing so who cares. Give players an indoor garden plot to grown vegetables and the majority of players will probably be fine sacrificing the front lawn.

Yup, the latter type were the ones I was referring to. Noticed a few people dropping their FCs around the end of lotto1 with just the intent of making a shell company for a house. Personally, the idea of leaving all my FC-mates and blowing up my FC-room doesn't appeal to me at all. I like my FC and the people in it. I don't want to leave them and spend all of my time in an empty club by myself. But obviously this didn't deter most people, and we're about to see the results soon.

People in FC-wards who are in here arguing about wanting a bustling FC neighborhood shouldn't be thrilled at the idea of their ward turning into a shell fc town either, since this completely nullifies the point of an FC ward. It's not an FC ward anymore; it's just a ward of homes owned by individuals who happen to own an FC that they control alone and never plan to grow or do anything with. It's pointless to differentiate the wards at this point. Square should reassess and open more wards on a server by server basis.

The unfortunate part of the new system is that it pushes one to act on how badly do they want a house. For people who are close to their FC mates its a harder choice, for sure. But to those that aren't? The folks that have no say in the décor, the airship names, what gets planted, and they aren't very attached to the group itself? Or hell, even just the people who really really wanted to live in Ishgard? I can't fault them for trying to get a leg up on this mess.

Like some others have said, by then all the shell FCs will eat up the remaining lots and the people who played fair get hosed.

I would pay good money to be able to get into the minds of the developers to get a glimpse of why they appear to be so stubborn about dealing with the housing issue. It's touted as a major feature of this game and yet so few people are allowed to enjoy it. Before anyone chimes in and says "but you could get an apartment", apartments are but a pale shadow of what houses are. There is so much more that you can do with a house that you can not do with an apartment. Even internally, houses are vastly more customizable than apartments currently are.
