I mean sure but to me it feels like they just want their cake and eat it too. They want the selfbuilding hype but also not be beholden to any promises. If they wanted to keep quiet they could have just not mentioned it at all.I am fairly sure they stopped saying anything about them because people were having too much expectations for them. The moment they were announced I saw everyone saying "We are getting Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley" in XIV. People are were already comparing it to full game releases when SE probably designed it to be way smaller side content
I suspect that Island Sanctuaries are nothing more than a bandaid created to deal with the fact that far too many players who want houses, will never get them and thus would have otherwise been locked out of growing crops. This is really just a clumsy attempt to sidestep the housing issue.
From the way they worded it last year, they were trying to create an island area where we could do some farming/gardening, customizable, with minions roaming that "you can invite your friends into." That is what has everybody thinking it may be their solution to housing. Personally, I don't expect much, it may just be a single area where you can put a hut and things like that, maybe special houses with no loading times that are like the houses you can run into in various areas in the game. If it's like that, then I imagine the strain would be a lot easier on the devs and the servers.
I am honestly expecting just a slightly upgraded version of XI's mog garden.
The Mog Garden gives you several nodes to collect from daily (mining, botany & fishing), a few gardening patches, the ability to hire an NPC to help tend your garden, a random daily item (usually junk, but not always!), monster rearing (I imagine this would be tweaked to be minion related, and the buff-system from XI would be removed), and an NPC that sells various items (including a gardening-themed outfit).
XI's Mog Garden is from 2013, so I'd like to think they can create something far superior...but this is SE we're talking about. They implement things in mysterious ways. I'm keeping my expectations incredibly low.
Yoshida said IS won't have timers or dailies or anything to make it competitive with other players or progression-based so this idea is already way off the mark. It's meant to be laid back and done at your own pace, as has been stated since its reveal. They've also said you can place down "buildings" and structures and expand the island to make it bigger; as vague as those statements are, so its definitely more than just "gardening for everyone."I am honestly expecting just a slightly upgraded version of XI's mog garden.

I am excited to see what it’ll bring,
It’s the strong speculation that most players are convinced if may be the “new instance housing” while I don’t recall the devs ever making a mention of it other than being vague about it.
Either way I am far content with my apartment that I’ve earnestly worked hard for & to me its my ideal home in which I don’t have to worry for the system itself to vacuate due to long absence & also personally I think it’s far too much of a hassle to deal with housing sorts,
Then again I am pragmatic & a minimalist,
Kudos
That sure is a cynical way to look at things. You'd think the dev team are mustache twirling villains getting an abundance of joy by deliberately making their playerbase miserable.
In actuality, they are more like the Loporrits and have been given the insurmountable task of appeasing every single player in the game, and to do it under the constant chants and cries of, "Do better!"
I do agree about one thing though. As rabid and quick to jump to conclusions as this playerbase is, I would kept quite about island sanctuary in order to avoid threads and comments exactly like this.
The goal is not misery, but short term hype in order to drive up sales for the expansion release. Only having to deal with the consequences of runaway hype and perceived underdelivery after the big run to the shops has long since happened make that a much more laid back experience than for example that one batman game that got refunded very harshly. If that sounds like villian business to you then I actually do agree but that's baked in to our entire economic system. Companies are interested in profits and are not your friend. That sure is a cynical way to look at things. The most "unfair" thing in the mog garden system would be the buffs linked to the monsters you raise, but that's why I doubt that would make it into XIV. I don't view a daily node to collect from any different than having a retainer you collect from daily. Some people do them hourly, some do them once a day, others do them whenever they feel like it. You're not getting very far ahead of anyone if you're one of the hourly peeps.Yoshida said IS won't have timers or dailies or anything to make it competitive with other players or progression-based so this idea is already way off the mark. If it's more than just gardening for all, fantastic! I'm still keeping those expectations low. :X
