Why don't they have it so that when you go to the placard you will need to resubmit the gil again before you can claim the house? If you hadn't requested a refund then you can just claim it there and then. Giving players a free house potentially up to 50m gil in value just for being inconvenienced is so dumb.

Maybe the error happened in such a way that it became impossible to know whether the player claimed the refund or not. They supposedly do log all players gil movements, however, so I doubt this happened.
It seems like a "just roll it out quickly, we'll trust the honor system" kind of deal. Which is a very Japanese way to solve the problem, I guess.
