New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

This isn't a blanket ban, this is the same stance they've always had with 3rd party tools lol :P As in 'don't tell, don't show, and we won't care'.

That's a bit of an oversimplification. They definitely are prioritizing certain 3rd party tools over others, particularly those that make the game unfair, and I wouldn't be surprised if they start cracking down more.

I do appreciate that they are looking at implementing UI changes though. That's really the biggest incentive I would have to use mods, and I appreciate that they are conscious of ways to clean up clunky interfaces.

Funny thing is, it probably wouldn't cost much for SE to pay:

* 1 (ONE) hrothgar gear/hairstyle modder for a few months.
* 1 (ONE) viera gear/hearstyle modder for a few months.
* 1 (ONE) healer player to develop basic attack mini-games for four jobs.

Their pride might never allow it, but god I wish.
Their whole internal approval process might be convulted as hell though. It might be slow still, but it would exist in some capacity atleast.

I will repeat what I said earlier: I have a small hunch that the Hrothgar stuff is being put off until the graphics overhaul to cut down on duplicative work. I know this is a "wait until x.x" argument that has been trotted out for many other things that have never happened, but I am willing to give a very measured amount of leniency in this instance.

If it's true though, I'm not sure of what that implies. Were they really sitting on their thumbs for a whole 2 years? I feel it's still a bit absurd, but yeah.

I really didn’t like the (hopefully unintentional) threat that the alternative to hairstyle options (with mutilated ears) that aren’t specific to Hrothgar (unlike the initial choices) was that it would take even longer to see just a few ones with ear support than it did to see these incomplete additions… This feels pretty tone-deaf and also containing guilting language since we had to wait multiple years for these versions where the decision to remove ears was apparently made early on without consulting the community first. When we still can’t wear most of the head glamour options that other races get, and then you basically imply that not only do we not have any new hairstyle options that are actually finished, but that we still may not get any (and even then, just a tiny few) for a long time from now again, I truly have to wonder how low of a priority that Hrothgar players feeling like they’re not playing a “limited race” is, because I’m increasingly doubtful that it could actually this long to resolve if it had more attention.

There will be so much anger if Square Enix starts banning people for trying to have hats and ears consistently show up on their Hrothgar characters. While the developers are supposedly looking at HUD enhancements to adapt from existing mods, could they also swallow their pride and finally consider hiring some modders who care more about the concerns of upset Hrothgar players?

the only way that is going to happen is if you actively talk about it in game or stream it. they wouldn't be able to do a file scan for those sort of things before every login, and I think Dalamud can do it on the fly without modifying files. I just find it hilarious that they're like "oh, people use these UI enhancements, we should add that!" while still blatantly ignoring Hrothgar solely because of the optics from Ultimate's world first. our issues with hairstyles were never even on the To-Do list
