But the issue here is that you CAN clear an Ultimate or other high end content without add-ons.Don't design content with incredibly tight DPS checks and then give players no way to know if they're actually executing correctly if you don't want things like ACT? I don't use it because I don't raid but it seems counterproductive to ban people for ACT when you've just released content where people need to know to perform optimally.
It's not always about making the content itself easier, I don't think having the fight the UI is a good way to make the game more challenging. Much of what many plugins do is simply reorganize information in a place where it's easier to see and notice. Many plugins were made from the notion that the current UI is insufficient rather than a desire to circumvent the built in game mechanics.
Dont get me wrong, I'm all for the devs to updating the UI to better display information. Its just that, it seems like a lot of details are grossly exaggerated to excuse the need for addons. Basically if you're telling me "you cannot do this raid, nor defeat this boss without this particular raid addon" then this is where we start to walk into that fine line. FFXIV doesnt have the same issue as in WoW where the devs CLEARLY design their fights around the usage of addons which just is completely stupid having to expect players to go out of their way to download third party plugins just to complete content within the game. It's not always about making the content itself easier, I don't think having the fight the UI is a good way to make the game more challenging. I can only say this from my experience on clearing current tier savages and EX, its completely possible to do these raids without addons. The boss tells are there and it doesnt take a scientist to figure out the whole dance. You do not need anymore information than what the game already gives you to do em. And the devs make sure they manage to clear the fight themselves first before releasing them to the public.
And again I want to reiterate, this is not me saying that the game UI does not need more QoL updates. Just stop making excuses for your own shortcomings about clearing raids with very obvious third party help.
How is that the issue? The actual issue is FFXIV doesn't have any common sense to develop a decent UI.
If anything we should be thanking add ons to finally get SE to listen to complaints people have had about the UI since ARR
The tools aren't there to make the content less difficult. The tools are there because the in game UI is terrible.Sounds useful indeed. If addons can keep track of that kind of information and reliably disclose it real time to the player(s), it makes me wonder what other things can be tracked via addons and made for player use.
That's neither here or there though. I'm still baffled why players looking for more difficulty would then actively support and use tools to make the content less so. Alas, I'm just on the outside looking in. I am quite sure there are some addons that are totally innocuous, and could provide some QoL updates if implemented into the game. I believe that is what Yoshi and Co are looking into. I just hope no one is getting their hopes up that there favorite addons will make the cut.
If you use a macro, that types out; Hallow Ground Used. The Message you typed is going to have a time stamp on it as well. You can easily track when that persons Hallow Ground is up with first grade mathematics. You can also tell when the hallow ground buff will fall off using those same first grade mathematics. You can click on the paladin and see how long the buff has left on it. How ever, on your party list you can see the Hallow Ground buff icon that's it.

Alright tell me exactly what we are desperately missing that raids are just too hard or impossible to do without an add-on UI?
I can only think of a few examples that doesnt necessarily factor with the content, but it would be nice if we had:
1. Better Buff timers
2. Death Recap
Overall compared to other MMO's that I've played, FFXIV's UI is very customizable and does it job well for me at least in my opinion. And again, I'm not saying that we shouldnt have improvements.
Timer on the boss fight from when the pull begins.
Displaying your debuffs or what ever sort of thing you have to maintain on the gauge or somewhere more visible like Ninja's Huton.
nobody is saying that. the closest to this is the titan jail plugin
do you even know what the guy that was banned had on screen? he had act, and he had party list buff timers. he can clear the fight easily with neither open. stop deluding yourself into thinking people cant clear the game because they want to see the duration of some buffs, or want to see if their cast is 0.5s from finishing to slidecast.
The most aggregating add on to me personally is the one that let's you play sophisticated songs fur bards. My friend quit because she mastered the harp when the system first came out and after the app to auto play music came out she was basically lumped into the bunch of cheaters converting music to the instruments.
How do you think people figured that out?The most aggregating add on to me personally is the one that let's you play sophisticated songs fur bards. It's so insignificant, it shouldn't have mattered if it was in your definition of "cheating". It was their choice to think that they're lumped into a suggested group, "cheaters" as if it had any impact on anyone else who's doing specified content besides affecting the ears of people.
The same can be said for how you think the world first has issues. It's TOS breaking, supposedly, and nobody cared till it was DSR. It certainly did bring in attention that no one would've cared had SE taken action and instead continued on with prog.
What a joke on how it took an ultimate, bufftimers or cactbot for SE to actually drag people out of prog and suspend them when a person got away with streaming sprint and rotation scripts for the previous tier on twitch for several months and no one remembers what happened after besides them being purged and went on to another alt.
