Again... its not me thinking anything.

    Its on the freaking rules.

This does put SE in an interesting spot. They've been maintaining a "don't ask don't tell" stance for years. They've basically been fine with parsers but have been trying to use the ToS to discourage player harassment or abuse without the need of moderating it. However, ToS is a set of rules and rules are meant to be followed.

When the streamer was mass reported, it wasn't wrong. It was a breach of rules. They can't ignore that many obvious reports or people will ask why they don't uphold their own rules. So they had to take action.

This sets a precedent. Players now know that they can mass report streamers to get them banned and will do so. For a start that will affect streaming which is a form of advertising and publicity for SE. Secondly players will wonder what other sources they can mass report to get players banned. Anything that can be linked to a player account is technically proof, fflogs being an example.

Most likely it'll just blow over, but there's a chance it might put them in a spot where they have to take their heads out of the sand and either completely ban mods, logs and addons and take measures to block them, or realize they have no choice but to give some of them the green light because they'd lose too many players.

Dalamud and ACT users likely won't be touched. However, things that can let you see mechanics ahead of time like Cactbot or people using triggers...that's when you're asking for the banhammer.

Poorly handled by SE, for sure. Consistency has always been one of your strong suits SE, don't start with this kind of crap now. Banning a player, then mentioning in your post you'll look into doing a lot of this QoL stuff yourself is a bad look. A lot of this stuff should already be in the game. Don't ban players for making your UI better for you, especially when we've been asking for a lot of this stuff for YEARS.

The couple of streamers who got hit so far were only using Dalamud and ACT, and not triggers, so?

All of those are against TOS if you admit to having them in game, on stream, or on the forums and someone cares enough to report you. They can't see what you're specifically running in your computer, but they will 100% ban you if you make it known and do the work for GMs by admitting to having them. There are no greenlit or safe game modifications. The post from the developers yesterday was very clear about that.

It was more that most people do not care if you're using graphics mods, UI HUD mods or parsers (as long as you're not harassing with one), they don't really hurt anybody or give you unfair advantages.

The latter option is their only recourse. It's far too late to try putting that genie back in its bottle. They can certainly try, however doing so will kill their entire raiding scene and cost them to lose millions when you consider the sheer number of players using not just parers but mods and addons.

My guess is this all blows over and they're only making a big deal because it's the current hot topic. It's just a shame the dev team doesn't seem to realize all they've really accomplished is allowing people to bully streamers. Bit ironic how they don't want to encourage harassment yet they're indirectly allowing it to happen.
