People have been migrating from WoW since the beginning of FF14. Even in 2015, people I would meet mentioned they used to play WoW. I've talked to veteran players for years in the Novice Networks of many servers and a large amount of them would tell me that they either still raidlog WoW or used to play it and quit. The migration didn't suddenly begin a year ago. My assumption was always that 50% of people used to play WoW or are playing both.

There isn't any evidence that they bring anything out of the ordinary to the game that people from other games don't. There are a lot of people who began playing FF14 after playing League of Legends or Overwatch and I can't imagine it being any easier for them to adapt to the game. It's also worth mentioning that just because someone used to play WoW doesn't mean that they didn't also used to play 10 other MMOs.

A lot of people from WoW quickly discover the culture is different in the first few dungeons and that they can't apply the same mentality to it, so they just try to discover the game instead.

Most of the criticism comes from veteran players who have built up frustrations over time and are coming to the forums to release it all, but there are plenty of people who haven't had so many things bother them for this long, so you can't say all veteran players are necessarily like this.

The forums were full of criticism even before Shadowbringers but I don't recall doomsaying. The doomsaying is a recent thing and a bizarre exaggeration for a game that has added almost 1 million to its average monthly subscriptions in the last year, its biggest growth from any expansion release.

Yeah that is why one of the first videos I see today on the timeline are "Despi Reacts to "FFXIV is Hurting Its Veteran Players" By Misshapen Chair" which is mostly the typical moaning of "omg the game isnt hard enough, the game will die if it doesnt pander to us high end players and high skill content"
And usually react videos mean it aint just some rando that is irrelevant in the FF14 community, this mentality is spreading and it isnt healthy or good for the community.

Ya know, when I see a video presenting an opinion I don't agree with, I see the first five minutes and move on. I don't bemoan that the community as a whole is a disease-filled pile of garbage that a certain group of players are adding on to. Complaining that the community sucks because two people said the game has things they don't like is doing the same thing the two people did - blowing stuff out of proportion.

I kinda agree with your takes but being antagonistic towards others won't get those same people on board with you.

The majority of players I met even back in 1.x, likewise, had played a fair bit of WoW, many simply having swapped because they wanted to see what a Final Fantasy title had to offer or because they hadn't much cared for Cataclysm (for those joining a month or two after 1.x's release). Those who had played XI before were a distant second.

I get where tou are coming from on some degree. I am somewhat casual, I don’t have any real goals i guess, i just play whatever i want for fun, I don’t high end raid cause my brain wouldn’t allow it probably. despite how badly i would like to have the glowing book with gears >.<.. I am mostly a collector, crafter and I only run as high as hard for dungeons and that is rare. I am totally one of the “casuals” that pays the bills i guess….

It does seem to be more people are complaining about the recent changes more than usual, but the new changes have only been in effect for a little while. People are getting use to new changes. There also isn’t anything wrong with trying to please both sides of the coin here and make both shine brightly. Now the game people like to play feels different.. this is a bad feeling. Having things everyone can do and at least somewhat enjoys is good.

Balance is they key to perfection.. casuals have gotten quite a bit from my perspective.. surely people who like harder stuff could have a turkey leg too?

I dont think the vast majority of wow refugees stayed around. It was practically impossible to play on Moogle for 6.0, but for 6.1 we've had no queues whatsoever really. Maybe like 10-30 people tops.

Im casual myself , tho not sure what's your point ? Endwalker wasn't best expansion compared to shadowbringer so ppl get mad about it . 6.1 was a big Slap for all hrothgars and you blaming wow players...
