Me over here, just excited for new content...something people claim we are getting less and less of.

That's a bad take.
1) Senior staff working on the same project for 10 years might get burned out of working on the same thing for so long, with the same pipeline, same methods etc. Better to put them on another project before their desire to produce good content vanishes.
2) Newcomers can bring breath of fresh air to the team, and to the game, because they have not been in the 'FFXIV development tunnel vision' for 10 years.
They need to keep a balance between both. That's healthy.
People are expecting way way too much from island sanctuary. Theyre treating it like a fix for loads of things. I hear people I know say things like "we're all getting personal instanced housing!!!11 aOmg" so of course these people are going to be disappointed utterly. My bar is set pretty low, and tbh that type of content doesnt really appeal to me. Maybe I'll do it if there are rewards/minions/mounts but I'm not too fussed on the slice of life stuff.
Regarding criterion dungeons I am much more excited, but still a bit apprehensive after endwalker. I want it to be xiv's version of wows mythic dungeons, but without all the badness lol. Midcore content is sorta lacking

Honestly, this. They should have said "Hey guys, we want to make something GREAT for 7.0. We're playing with this concept of an island with minions and maybe gardening. What do you want in it. Vote here."Given that it's meant to be a key feature for the expansion itself, telling people not to get excited is a major red flag. Instead they should be taking note of what people are expecting and then try to include as many of the desired features as realistically possible.
Especially since we're meant to be entering a bright new era for the game itself...
2 months later, they tally some votes and see "holy crap they want gardening and instanced housing, guess that's what we gotta make. Probably will take us about 6 months...".

Instanced housing is held back by old code and poor choices regarding where the housing info is stored that could possibly break things further if they tried to fix it now Gardening is one thing and has a high chance of coming with the IS. Instanced housing is a whole other beast.Honestly, this. They should have said "Hey guys, we want to make something GREAT for 7.0. We're playing with this concept of an island with minions and maybe gardening. What do you want in it. Vote here."

And then the community start screeching that it takes them too long that there's not enough content and devs just don't care. Been there, saw that...Honestly, this. They should have said "Hey guys, we want to make something GREAT for 7.0. We're playing with this concept of an island with minions and maybe gardening. What do you want in it. Vote here."

Or maybe first release a barebones "beta" version of it (which is likely what they'll do), see if users like it, and then take feedback in consideration.Honestly, this. Spending months gathering feedback on a content that people might not even interact with is not a great idea in iterative development IMO...

I don't think it would had mattered much. Yoshi already said to lower your expectations from the start.
To be honest, as simple (and boring lol) as Animal Crossing is and telling us to settle down already
makes me think this will be a bust.
This was suppose to be a 'big' feature and saying "don't get too excited!" bodes unwell.
Also, I never even heard of Crit dungeons until now so whats with the non-communication these days
like come on dudes lmao.
I think saying "don't get too excited" doesn't bode unwell, it tempers expectations. Like others have said, some people think that everyone is going to get the equivalent of a housing plot on their own island. This is a massive expectation that will definitely not be the case and is just people's minds running wild.

Telling players in your very own video game to not get excited to a feature is pretty bad news.I think saying "don't get too excited" doesn't bode unwell, it tempers expectations. That's just me though.
Then again, we have 0 to go on so really everything is up in the air.
I mean it's about to come out I think, so a bone could be tossed soon please.
