First, it's fine that people want to post videos of early content clears. You could never stop it from happening so it's obviously not worth complaining about. It's even better if people want to post proof of clears while purposefully keeping strategies a secret, it makes them look horrible to the community and they end up being disliked by the very people they're trying to show off to.
With that out of the way, I think Xoo inadvertantly stepped through a really good point. The majority of ffxiv players who played ffxi don't want the community to end up the way it did in ffxi. They don't want to hate someone just because they're in a different LS, they don't want to agonize because they lost claim of a one week spawn, or hover over competing linkshells like vultures in case they wiped. As for the people who didn't play ffxi previously, maybe they're naturally opposed to things that would transform the community for the worse without even knowing it? Competition in MMO's is fine and healthy, but it shouldn't become poisonous like it was in ffxi.
The BG (ffxi players) came off as likeable guys, but saying:
and the gloves come off. Since you seem to have forgotten your own history:
BG's "rise to fame" in ffxi was because of average organization skills and a large amount of luck, while individual player skill had almost nothing to do with it. Those early "omg first NA only LS Simurgh/Adamantoise/fafnir/Genbus!! kill videos" were a result of you being lucky enough to find English speaking 75's that could convene at a spot at a certain time of the day, and not because they were challenging in the slightest. <Here's where you'd bluff and say "it's only easy in retrospect because we showed you guys how"> but old ffxi players know that isn't true, strategies for early ffxi NM's included one or two of the following: only stand here, shadowbind and run away during 2hr, have enough people to heal the tank. Getting those youtube videos out early got people interested in the NM, joining, visitng your site, people signing up for the forums, etc etc. Your following grew because BG was the first to exist, not anywhere near the best. Fast forward and we get some JP's/HP beat Tiamat/Vrtra/Jorg first, Apathy killed AV(inb4 doesn't count glitch)/PW first, and everyone officially stopped caring when WotG came out because the new HNM's were stupid and only masochists were left playing.
If you guys had any "skilled" players in ffxi, they would have been doing interesting things that Avesta had done, or not pretending to be uninterested in WoW when ffxi severely declined because you knew you couldn't clear raids anywhere near the top 100 (or more) guilds. You knew you were nobodies outside of ffxi, so you had to retreat to ffxiv to try to repeat the cycle of -> organize and don't give up after two wipes -> complete content -> draw attention to website -> cull out undesirable posters -> "omg we're the voice of the community invite us to interview you SE" -> infinte loop of kissing your own a**es in ffxiv.
Trying to wave your E-**** in front of players in a new game is pathetic, the ffxi fairytale is over and everyone here is glad it is.
