Even if you want to take this route. This is not the actual problem cited by the OP. The actual problem is that people are discriminating against mentors before they even get a chance to perform said duties or if they mess up during said duties because a part of the community has decided it's okay to ostracize and discriminate against people with mentor crowns.

    As for your examples.

    1. If you are in a Walmart and someone is wearing a typical store worker outfit with their name-tag and job title on it, you would expect them if you ask which isle you can find an item, they would be able to at least direct you there.
-You'd be suprised how many walmart employees redirect you to another person or counter because their store is too large, they don't care, or they don't have time because they are working on something else. That doesn't mean I get a free pass to bully them or think they are all useless. This would constitute discrimination against walmart employees. They are expected to give advice but not all of them do, and in fact some walmart employees have terrible attitudes. I still behave in a polite way when interacting with one....

    2. But, for example if a person keeps bragging about being a doctor and then when there is a dying person on an airplane and they cannot give basic help, people would probably have a few things to say about that...
-No, people shouldn't discriminate against all doctors because one did this. Nothing about this scenario would make people think all doctors are bad.

i asked a tank to use their mitigations bc they wouldn't use any mitis except at the start of a long pull and not at the end, no reprisal and no arms length either. the healer was having a hard time dealing with an incompetent tank after 3 party wipes to mobs, so i threw in a suggestion and made sure my wording could not be interpreted as being cross or upset.
and i got told off- probably reported too.
If you were reported but a GM didn't come to talk to you then why do you care?

Maybe I'm not hanging out in the right circles, but I've never once seen anyone being toxic to a mentor in the game. On the forums people talk trash about them all the time, just like they do about many other subsections of the community (WoW refugees, sprouts, casuals, new players, old players, etc.). I rarely see trash talking in game, though. The only form of toxicity in the game that I commonly observe is players whining about long cut scenes in the MSQ roulette that they optionally queued for knowing that there were going to be long cut scenes. At a distant second is the paper tank in Aurum Vale who has already raced through three packs without popping any kind of mitigation and is already down to half health, yet charges on ahead to pull a fourth pack only to unceremoniously go down for the count before the healer can even catch up to pop a benediction on them. Ironically these people think they're saving everyone time by wasting their time, but I digress. I can't say I've ever witnessed an instance of mentor abuse in game. On the forums? Yes. In game? No.

It's too late for all of us, but honestly some of the best advice for new players would be to avoid gaming forums. :X It's a bit like how news channels primarily focus on all the horrific things going on in the world, and if that's all you're consuming on a daily basis, it's definitely going to tweak your outlook on life and those around you.

Because mentors only use mentor roulette for getting the mount, and refuse to say anything or be helpfull at all.

The only person to ever be a toxic douche to me in-game was a mentor who called me a noob and asked whether I had a learning disability because I mishandled a single pull in Darkhold.
    Good times.

I personally don't let it bother me. I have the mentor mount but continue to do mentor roulette several times every day just because I think the roulette itself is really fun. And I actually welcome getting EX trials in the roulette, I even join synced min ilevel old EX trial PFs to help sprouts that want to do things the hard way. Sure, I've been called a mentor a few times like it's an insult when I offer tips on a fight, but it's whatever. I've seen my share of bad mentors that give us a bad name, so I know why people have that opinion of us. All I can really do is continue to be helpful and ignore people that hate me without knowing me.

Too many accumulated negative experiences with mentors commonly shared across enough people is going to create a negative perception, unfortunately.

There is, of course, no reason to be vitriolic to mentors without sufficient provocation, but I've had several experiences that make me groan. Whether it was how they almost certainly didn't want to bother helping or teaching because of the associated rewards, or clearly showing a distinct lack of knowledge or precision when it comes to basic mechanics, among other things. It's okay for mentors to make mistakes and I'm not going to bother them for it in-game at all (so long as they're not asses to me or someone else in the party unnecessarily), but my personal interpretation of the system is that they should ideally be some manner of cut above your average player when it comes to doing the basic stuff you need to do to finish the main story, at least. Or, beyond that, good knowledge of EX fights, for instance. That's what I would assume SE's apparent standard is since you can get them in mentor roulette.

Unfortunately, as the system is, it has always indicated to me only that someone has played the game for a long enough time as arbitrarily decided by its current requirements. There is a reason the memes exist.

Personally I don't like the notion that someone can kick anyone, even temporarily, from a massive chat channel, when all they did to get that power was playing the game, absolutely zero curation. Sure, Square says they investigate every kick, but i don't trust that at all. I'm a trade mentor myself, but I am still the same as I always were and I sincerly hope I never have to kick a single soul.

What I noticed, however, is that the longer a person plays the game, the less they parttake in this sport, often times they themselves become mentors, and mostly have no problem with people displaying their mentor crown in duties or in public spaces.

You don't see them immediately point out that someone is a mentor when that someone makes a dumb mistake or a common error, possibly because the joke has become stale.

On the other hand, recently FFXIV had a huge surge of new players, and what I've noticed is that those new players, who first discover that being mean to mentors is socially accepted in the XIV community, begin to go far and beyond above what is acceptable to abuse mentors, sometimes even ingame, in party chat in duties, pointing out that someone has a crown, or sometimes, an ultimate legend title or an ultimate weapon, if the party fails or someone makes a mistake.

I can understand it because this is the fresh new thing they discovered and helps them feel part of the community of FFXIV since everyone else is doing it, but the question nags me at the back of my head: is this a problem of old players making, or is this something exclusive to the new breed of players this game is now attracting?
This brings to mind an experience I had a few days ago. While I'm no longer the newly-crowned mentor who goes around the town with the mentor icon on, I still do what a mentor is supposed to be doing from time to another. That being a mentor to others, especially new-players (Sprouts) and returners.
Sometimes I also queue for mentor-roulette whenever I feel like I have nothing to do, and to help out some sprouts and players who're in need of assistance, but that time I got into what is considered to be the worst fears of any mentor-roulette queuer. An ex trial...
Whenever I get into these trials, I try to do my best to carry the sprouts who queued for this hellhole, thinking it's another punching-bag boss. Yet they kept brain-dead dps the boss and ignoring the adds, which of course caused us to wipe. When that happened they immediately blamed me for not doing my job. Excuse me? I may not have read what you said exactly but I'm a tank, and we have another tank, and I was the only one tanking the boss when the rest is supposed to kill the adds. How exaclty I'm the cause of this wipe? This isn't my first time here you know....
I moved on to say that this content is extreme. This is by no means something designed for any by-passers to complete but is part of the endgame in its respective expansion. I understand you have quests that require you to complete this, because who doesn't want to have a clean quest log? But if that's the case you can ask your FC, your friends, or really any high-level players to help you clear it unsynced and it won't take a minute. Please do not queue for this if you don't want to learn the mechanics and cooperate because then we won't be capable of clearing, but if you want to learn the mechanics then I'd gladly help you!
While some were like: "Okay let's do it!". There was that one new player who jumped out of nowhere and called me a toxic salty mentor and insulted me with one of the names. Saying: "You must be one of those WoW toxic players! Go back to your game!"
While I didn't mention myself being a WoW player somewhere in the game that these sprouts can see, I'm indeed one, but calling me as such as if it's a mark of shame is disrespectful, and insulting others with names and such is unacceptable toxic behavior. You don't have the right to insult another player if they're a mentor or X-game player regardless of what happens.
The new player never really responded after that, and the party after multiple wipes managed to clear the boss. Hurray!
But yeah, this is one of some of my bad experiences as a mentor, which mostly (If not all) involve toxic sprouts seeing themselves above mentors. I'd really appreciate SE being strict with these kind of behaviours or otherwise it may fester even more. Toxic only breed more toxicity and I don't see this going down anytime soon.

    Note: Sorry for walltext xD
