In the louisoix cut scene when hes talking to a legacy character he says

you know of what happened next. I used the last of my strength to send you and your companions outside of time, and then prepared to meet my end.
    Non legacy

Little choice remained to me. I used the last of my strength to entrust our hope unto the future and prepared to meet my end.
This is when alisae asks him what happened at Carterneau here is my legacy screen shot

Non legacy not my character it is from this YouTube vid

I have a secret to tell. From my electrical well. It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells. So the room must listen to me Filibuster vigilantly. My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e. My story's infinite Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest- TMBG Birdhouse in your Soul

What I think is irrelevant - it's about what makes sense from a narrative stand point. Outside of a few scenes (which you can count on one hand) which were clearly just meant to be easter eggs for early adopters/supporters and are never brought up again... it makes far more sense for us to be the same character than not. If SE come out and say we're different then fair enough, but until that happens, I maintain we were always meant to be the same character.

I don't think it's possible to have a completely fresh start, but I think what he meant was moreso that the whole Ascians and Hydaelyn storyline is over.
Same with the Garleans, I do think there will be some conflict happening I don't think that getting over all of that tension is something that will just happen right away.
But the Garlean Empire is no more.

I am not a big Lord of the Rings fan so I dunno what happened lore-wise post the movie trilogy.
But it'd kinda be like if the setting continued and there was a conflict between the people who sided with Sauron and the '' good guys ''.
It wouldn't be Sauron and the Orcs/ Uruk Hai but it'd still be connected to that history.

We saw this in 6.1 too where old stuff that has happened in the past was brought up again, I mean that's just going to happen I think it'd be a bit ridiculous if it wasn't.
It's part of what makes the FFXIV story great imo too that it all builds on itself and that it doesn't just forget a giant sword sticking to the planet *cough* WoW *cough*.

It is definitely the case that a non-legacy character is not treated as if they were involved in legacy events. In addition to MSQ changes and the Binding Coil dialogue above, SMN quest dialogue is also altered according to whether you are a legacy player (in which case you are noted as having been exposed to Bahamut's aether at Carteneau) or not (in which case the aether was simply widespread).

The big difference is that 1.0 is an inaccessible game now. The vast majority of players have never been given the chance to play it and cannot do so even if they want to. It is cut off from the narrative because of this, and even so, it leaves an awkward gap for a non-legacy player of what happened to the original WoLs who vanished without a trace at Carteneau.

I don't think it should be repeated to create another layer of confusion and ambiguous canon.

Which is why it never made sense from a narrative stand point to treat it as anything other than an easter egg. The times they mention it are so few and far between as to be meaningless.

I'm still of the mind they came back said screw it and retired to Costa Del Sol. After all the crap my WoL has been through i think he's beginning to wonder why he came back. lol

I wonder if ARR player was ever at cartineau at all.
And if in new journey, ARR player will have differences in cutscenes and dialogue
IF they decide to make that point a fresh start

hey, if you ignore every evidence that it's not the same. Then it's the same!
    again, think however you want.

I definitely get your point, it *is* definitely content, but it's also preventing a lot of new players from playing with veterans. Like right now I have like 4 friends I wanna enjoy current content with but they're having to get up to specific level requirements and ESPECIALLY story requirements just to be able to do some of them (such as Heaven on High, Bozja, Eureka, and more).

But this is why I proposed the "Echo" idea since it's an in-canon plot device anyway for looking back into the past. New players could relive old content and cutscenes viewing through the Echo to see the WoL and how they completed these. The cutscenes would play out the same as they used to, and it functions like New Game+ in a manner of speaking. It still gives them plenty to discover *and* a way to go back and view the old story while being able to play in the brand new content of today that's starting out a new storyline. I'd call it something of a win win where they can play and discover the old content in a fun in-narrative way (maybe even earn experience while playing an ARR job) but still access the current stuff to join friends right now.

Or they could just skip forward in the story as it stands, and simply use the existing New Game+ system to see the earlier parts of the story if they want.

No complicated alternate narrative. Just starting from Part 2 and accepting that you've skipped over some things. It's not that hard, is it?
