The story is great, but it blatantly gets in the way of the rest of the game

... There are people alive that aren't even aware of that and happen to play this, you know. Also, thanks for making me feel old.

EDIT: OG FFVII is over 20 years old and I still have my copy from back then... and remember playing Chrono Trigger on the SNES... Ugh.
