Personal Housing limited by account but alt characters unable to use items.

Would be awesome if they changed that indeed, and even better : have your alt as NPC when they are offline having special interaction like sitting on a couch, sleeping in a bed etc ...

I agree, this is one of the few valid housing complaints.

(That, and outdoor items not being usable in apartments, despite often being seasonal rewards.)

I have no idea why they didn't realize this yet. Maybe it's not so easy as we think to implement it, idk.
But I suggested this years ago to SE, and not just me. I still hope. :3

I agree. Anything that's character-locked, such as housing, mail, etc should be made account-locked so that all characters on a single world are able to interact within-account without limit. I get that an account-wide bank is a no-go, but having the ability to mail things from my main to my alt and use both characters to decorate my apartments and FC rooms would be a HUGE QoL improvement. Not being able to send myself money has been an inconvenience to my FC mates. In order to send the 4 million needed to bid on a house, my FC lead had to change permissions for my rank to let me use the FC chest to transfer, then immediately change them back. It's either that, or have to send multiple mails or do multiple trades at the 1M max amount. I respect the need to deter RMT and am fine with the interpersonal limitations. However, restricting funds transfer within my account is not cool. I have no issue with maintaining the 1M max per mail for RMT reasons; its not a huge deal to send multiple mails; it's the inability to send mail to myself that's the issue.

I know I'm going to win the plot I bid on, but don't know which of my characters are going to get it. If it's the main, then there are no problems. If it's the non-crafting alt, then things are going to get very cumbersome, very quickly. Having to use limited slots in the FC bank to move things between the two is incredibly awkward with all the required switching back and forth. The mail system has an internal limit (20 letters, I think?) on items it can hold so there's no need to be concerned with blowing up the mail servers with obscene amounts of stuff being sent back and forth. The 100 items in the mail at once its pretty generous; that's enough to hit the item limit on an apartment.

In regards to retainers there's 2 reasons I feel like we should have gotten up to 2 free per account per world with additional purchasable via subscription options from mogstation. 1. It makes the game more Alt friendly as we'd be able to store things on a retainer and access it from any of the characters on the account. 2 has to do with the retainer naming system that appears to require retainers to have unique names on their world and does not give a space for a family name like player characters.

If I'm reading this correctly, what you're asking for already exists. With my Standard sub, all of my characters get 2 free retainers. The additional retainers I purchased for the main while he was my only character are also available "for free" on any alt I make. Unfortunately, account-wide access to all retainers is 99.9% a no-go a the system's so fundamental that changing it would likely have serious repercussions.

Why? What practical purpose does limiting shared storage serve other than to punish legitimate players? Botters already use FC's to coordinate.

It's a matter of how they built the fundamental system, if I'm recalling past answers to this question correctly. Two of the main points being that retainers aren't persistent and only load when called and market board activities are tied to individual retainers. This, if I understand their explanation (I'm no programmer), prohibits referencing retainers and items to multiple characters. Changing the way banking works would require a significant, if not complete, overhaul of the coding and architecture of the retainer and market board systems from my understanding.

Legit FCs use FC chests to coordinate banking as well. I use my FC's chest to transfer items between my characters or give things to my FC mates nearly every day. I agree that the current system is very inconvenient and cumbersome, but a rebuild of the entire banking system is highly unlikely.

So don't reuse the crappy retainer code, use the FC chest code. The only "new" work that needs to be done is providing additional chests with an access list limited to alts on your account.

Replacement would be a terrible idea. I still need personal storage.

No what I meant is only getting 2 free retainers per world per account that would be shared access to all characters on the account made on that world and purchased retainers from mogstation also being a single account wide access retainer rather than every individual character getting their own retainers. So on standard sub with no mogstation additions you would have 2 retainers on said world regardless if you had 1 character on the world or 8 characters on that world. Granted they'd need to make certain gear items like AF gear not storable on retainer. This would have made retainers a shared storage option and eliminated the need to mail items between characters.

Changing them to be that way now is where the issues lie. While we have things like glamour dresser and armoire that could store the things not meant to be transferrable between characters, there are likely numerous people out there by now that have made alts just to get more retainers to either hoard things or flood more things onto the marketboards at the same time.
