What is with the constant mistreatment of the Garlean story?(6.1 Patch spoilers)

Not like I was expecting anything different from an on-rails JRPG but I have no idea where you came up with the idea the WoL decided anything. They were told to go somewhere by Tataru, cut off at the pass by Estinien (just the fact that he's the one who bought the map makes it pretty clear it's not YOUR adventure), and you can't even choose who to bring with you because it's all scripted out. And of course you don't get to see a single coin out of the adventure. It was extremely half-baked errand running, again.

The story I saw is one where Tataru had a nice meal with us, and then suggested that we go treasure hunting because it might be fun for us, because she's our friend and is giving us a lead to follow up on. Not because she has any personal investment or desire to have anything to do with treasure. If you want to deny that your WoL has any agency of their own and just pretend you're a slave to following the quest text instructions, that's on you.

Also of course the game wasn't going to drop a huge pile of gil on us as a quest reward, that would devastate the player economy. What did you expect?

I'd say that wanting the player character to wear clothing made by Tataru so she can drum up business counts as 'personal investment':



Which in itself adds weight to what people are saying. That their character isn't just being allowed to go off on an adventure with no strings attached and is once again just a useful tool to the Scions. They're friendlier about it than they were during the days of ARR but the status quo hasn't really changed which is unfortunate.

There's plenty of stuff in the game that many of us like and comment on. This is a platform to provide feedback and is being used as such. It's not really the business of paying customers to try and dictate what they should and should not discuss, as far as I see it.

I daresay it isn't difficult to go and look at people's lodestone profiles to see what they engage with in-game, either. Especially since it's public information. Just because someone isn't thrilled with the direction the story is taking it doesn't mean they're not invested in other aspects of the game. I would have thought that to be obvious...but apparently not!

Tataru wanting you to wear her clothing during your future adventures has absolutely nothing to do with the specifics of the treasure hunt she gave you a lead on. You could go off and do anything wearing her clothes and she'd get just as much out of it.

Unless you want to imagine that Tataru's thought process is something like: "If I send the WoL off to Thavnair wearing my clothes, they will gain the attention of plenty of merchants and traders who all feel a particular sense of gratitude towards the Warrior of Light, it's the perfect place for word of mouth to start growing organically. My Tailoring Empire will get jump-started in no time! KEHEHEHE!"

But if that's really her thought process, it's so conniving and manipulative that I can't help but like her more than I already do.

I mean, to be fair, there are one or two people here that repeatedly threaten to cancel their sub based on factors such as whether or not the game ever shifts focus to Meracydia or the New World or whatever. Thus, it does give the impression that whatever other investments they have in the game are distantly secondary to plot or setting.

Made me start laughing with the first sentence. Can't believe this happened lol. I started with mega hype levels in 1.x/2.0, but the things I was most excited about turned out to be afterthoughts for the writers several years later. I used to imagine exploring a grand still-standing Garlemald. If it were up to me, that would probably have been last expansion (5.0) along with many other settlements on the Ilsabard main continent, which means crossing over to a completely different world never would have happened. The First ended up having a pretty good story and was highly reviewed so I can't say it was wrong to do, just for my personal taste I'd have liked a more coherent overarching story focusing on the Source and delivering on expectations the v1/2 story set up.

However they say it whether it’s saying x makes them want to quit the game or the game going in x direction will make them do that doesn’t change that. You're not the only thing that finds it baffling. What is even more confusing to me is....one of the main criticisms of FFXV was not being able to explore insomnia and the imperial capital in all its glory. Same with KH3 with the final area that i think they ended up locking behind dlc. They know people want to explore built up places in all their glory but they still went along with this. Beyond crazy.

All I said was why not play something else that has what you want. I don't think that's a controversial thing to say. And my post wasn't even addressing everyone as I made it clear at the start who I meant. No body is offended so I'm not sure how that makes sense here
