What is with the constant mistreatment of the Garlean story?(6.1 Patch spoilers)

The single biggest limitation with the Garlean storyline was the Ascian involvement with it. It would have been one thing if Varis was actually shrewd enough to use them to satisfy his own goals. But Emet's introduction revealed that 'his body's grandson' was merely a puppet dictator installed by the Ascians. Once that was revealed, the entire story focus naturally shifted away from Garlemald to their Amaurotian overlords. The remainder of Ilsabard actually looks a lot more interesting to explore now that we've wrapped up the Amaurotian storyline.

Honestly I have to agree everything what Kizuya is saying here.

This did feel very mismanaged.

I really didn't like how Bozja ended, and the story was because some people liked the scenario and others did not so it got ended prematurely.

I know there was talks of coming back to this in the future, but that is never a guarantee.

I feel like the whole “we may come back to this later,” is just something they have to say unfortunately. I don’t see it ever returning, the writers basically showed this expansion they’re willing to rush through plot lines just to finish them to keep more spotlight on the main cast :/ Truly sad.

I remember finishing up all my role quests during the moogle event to make sure they were all done so I could do the final role quest on day 1 because it was in Garlemald and the ending they got was not satisfactory in 6.0 and still had a lot of loose ends and boy was I disappointed with the whole wrap up Corvos offscreen and go to the moon bit as well as of course making it another Republic, like seriously don't we have enough at this point. To make it even more disappointing I will remind everyone that they seemed to be building up Garlemald for over 4 years with constantly showing us scenes there that revealed more and more, eventually showing us part of the city in 5.0 and actually letting us control Estinien in the Imperial palace in 5.1, which looked really cool, especially the part with the Chandeliers. All that buildup amounted to 1 ruined zone and a sloppily concluded storyline. That and the whole world working together and holding hands and singing kumbaya as well as them trying to unsuccessfully and sloppily wrap up most of the plot points tied to Garlemald makes the world feel so much less interesting, especially as someone who studies human history. Like I was at least hoping that with the power vacuum there would be a lot of nations competing with each other like in most of real world history but it looks like everyone is super best friends now even though the lack of a bigger threat means they have little reason to work together.

My only hope is that since this role quest did not deal with the twins, Jullus, or anyone in the subway means that they will still get another questline that hopefully lasts 2 patches in the story like Doma got in 4.2-4.3. I also hope that they see the critical reception Garlemald got as a zone, especially its quest, and hear people are upset about how it was rushed and want to see the rest of Ilsabard uncovered and they put are gallivanting about the world storylines on hold to do an Ilsabard expansion, and even if more Garlean content doesn't interest some people hopefully the fact that Ilsabard will be more European in Aesthetic to fit their typical fantasy look will make them go with it. Other then that continue to make our voices heard that we are unsatisfied with this conclusion, when they add the Garlean Glam and housing options be sure to wear it and use it and send pictures of it maybe gathered in a group to let them know there are fans.

But consider this: if there was a whole expansion based on Garlemald, we'd have spent the whole time with Zenos. Eugh.

We're still spending way too much time with Zenos. Even now we are still focusing on him and this silly shade or shroud or whatever is running around. We will probably still be dealing with Zenos into 7.0 and even 8.0 because for whatever reason the writers can't get enough of him.

They said they're glad to be moving on from Garlemald as antagonists. That has nothing to do with the cast of protagonists or other non-Garlemald related plot threads.

It's not a zero sum of "EVERYTHING is new or NOTHING is new".

Precisely this. I was going to post somewhere else about this but this patch is hardly the start of something new given that we went right back to the same tired old cast and the same old antics. Cutsey G'raha moment. Sassy Y'shtola moment. There were no new characters introduced in the main plot that I can remember, only potentially hinting at Varshahn joining the party.

I was looking forward to seeing what would occur with Garlemald and out of all possible avenues they took the worst route for the conclusion of its story. It cannot get any worse than this, and given that the primary issue of its fate and setting up a new government were handled in the span of a few textboxes, there is very little else to do in the region if we ever visit it again.
