I don't think it's specifically "laziness", but simply the fact that they don't give a damn about Hrothgar players' wishes (and Viera likewise).
They rather spend 80% of their budget and dev time on creating the MSQ with fancy, extensive animations of Y'shtola having a book fall on her head or G'Raha's ears wiggling every other cutscene, than to take 2 weeks of dev time and focus 100% on fixing the mess that are Viera who can't wear hats & helmets + are lacking most unlockable hairstyles (both things that modders could do in a matter of hours; and keep in mind that those modders work alone, not with a big team) and Hrothgar with their garbo hairstyles, the lacking ears and the absolutely ridiculous decision that they cannot change their hairstyle at the aesthetician, but their unnecessary fur pattern you never see whenever you wear armor anyway can be changed there (it should be vice versa).
"Haha we made another msq joke where we poke fun about the fact that the player character only ever smiles and nods! What's a Hrothgar?"
Once again posting the gold standard for playable beast races for no reason...
(se, please use this as inspiration.. pls Stop half-assing hrothgar. Respect your beast races and their appeal.)
~sigh~
Exactly this. And this is pretty sad.
Excuse me??? Of course this is absolutely unheard of for a Japanese company! A modder simply cannot do what a multi billion dollar company's dev team can do. If they accepted the work modders have already done, that would mean that they ADMIT that modders can do stuff better than them. Absolutely unthinkable! The devs also have honor and pride in their craft! ... What do you say? ... Excessive pride was the reason why 1.0 failed? What?? No, that can't be true.
Let's not forget our latest Alliance Raid has animated sugar cubes in a cutscene.
Animated sugar cubes. Let that sink in.
That they even zoom in.
So, what, our hair is so cumbersome, so infuriating to deal with, so asininely impossible, that the Square Enix who is making FF16, has made Kingdom Hearts games with photorealistic detail and has done movies with ridiculously expensive CGI can't find it in them for 2 weeks to fix their PS3 quality races?
But to make animated cubes, NAH MATE, let's spend all we can animating that. WHOA TECHNOLOGY. A catboy having ear wiggles, a book falling on Y'shtola and her being pouty in the new dungeon? MUST NEEDS. Fixing these races? Naaaah, can't tweak 3D model files, not my job, not paid hard enough. Let's just wait until all the older races have their facial lift to even bother. While making this problem get worse and worse each time by adding even more hairstyles and gear that will be locked.
I'm just so tired of this. Enough, Square. Thank you, Zhexos, for your answer but it's been made painfully clear and obvious just how simple the problem is and how much of a hell is being created just to address it.
Just to reiterate, these don't seem to be the usual 8 we had. 4 for Helion, 4 for Lost. They're 8 faces per type. They couldn't just decouple hair from the faces, they had to make entirely new faces to deliver an unfinished product yet again. Because to many people the bare minimum was just to have Jandelaine allow us to swap between our native hairstyles. And instead, he only can afford us one other racial hairstyle and then a bunch of unwanted Karen content. And Snow hair. This is already quite lazy, but it just feels like they're mocking the playerbase at this point.

I'd rather they be added less frequently than have them cut corners I mean cut ears. And I still question why the development team is so slow in adding these when 'other people' manage to get other hairs working on the two races. Not that I condone such actions, but I want answers as to why its not difficult for them but it is for the staff of a massive company. Have a member of the staff in charge of designing and implementing hairstyles sit down and type out the entire process. Don't tell us "Its too complicated you wouldn't understand."

I don't blame the community rep for any of this. He was probably just doing what they told him to. That's why I was (well, in my opinion) fairly polite in my response. It accomplishes nothing by "shooting the messenger".Be prepared to have this transcript pasted several times instead of having any proper answers. Infuriating but considering how long it took for them to tell us what they were and were not going to lock behind a fantasia I suspect we won't hear any news for several weeks, if ever.![]()
Aye, no. I agree. Better than Blizzard where the CEO releasing memos he wrote under the name of someone else in the company.
That said, I see no reason to be gentle with my critique right now. If they were kind to us when these issues were first brought up I might've been willing but the length of time they took only to hastily change the patch notes last minute like that? Really? So not only do Hrothgar not deserve development time they don't even deserve a response or clarification?
